Can't blame that on the Giants current front office

Probably not but Evan Neal had bad reviews overall last year.
Giants could have had Garret Wilson
Hopefully Neal finds his superpowers

"Neal, on the other hand, wasn’t as exciting. He struggled, much like many rookie tackles, and gave up three sacks in one game (Week 3 vs. Dallas), but had a couple of nice performances sprinkled among his 13 games. Above all, Neal needs time to develop."

Basically downgraded because they all got hurt, even Neal. And I remember another recent OT 1st rounder who got mediocre grades his rookie year who worked out .

Mike Tannenbaum has Giants picking Jalin Hyatt @ 25

"Darius Slayton led Giants receivers with just 724 yards last season. Despite re-signing Slayton and Sterling Shepard and adding a few pass-catchers in free agency, it's safe to say the Giants need a standout wide receiver. I love how Hyatt flourished in Tennessee's offense when Josh Heupel stepped in. He is slightly undersized at 6 feet and 176 pounds, but he has a lot of speed and posted 67 catches for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. Hyatt could be the Giants' WR1 as soon as the draft card is turned in."

Hyatt is the WR who had 207 yds and 5 TDs on only 6 receptions vs Alabama.
Of course that was more on Bama flaws but still a good WR

Draft tonight! I’ll be sleeping by the time we pick. The #25 pick has been traded the last 6 drafts I believe. Still so many holes to fill. For some reason I’m not as high on Quenton Johnston WR and Keylee Ringo CB as others. Heard some podcasts mentioning there flaws and have me concerned. Both maybe in play at 25.

I confess this is the first time ever I had a lot of confidence in Giants AND Jets draft skills.
Not that I like every pick but I dont feel like they will flat out waste picks rolling dice.
Its scary to go back over Jet/Giants drafts on Wiki and see how many of them bombed

15 picks, 2 RBs and no WRs so far. There may be a WR that justifies #25.

Let the jinx begin.

Fellas doing draft on TV said all best OL are gone
In NY Post many posters wanted OL and specifically said "no WR!"
I know Giants need DBs and LBs too

There was talk last month of Giants taking TN WR Jalin Hyatt - 207 yds and 5 TDs on 6 catches vs Bama

Sounds good and they must of really wanted him to move up one spot giving up a 5th and 7th. The offense still needs a lot of help.

True
I just remember how Eagles manhandled Giants defense
Even Dexter Lawrence was getting his butt kicked

Giants were duped if you ask me. They took the #5 CB as the #4 CB off the board and there wasn't another CB taken in the 1st round. Could still have gotten either him or Porter ranked higher.

Don't know about the trade value but so-called expert (i.e. Kiper Jr) rankings are subjective especially as you move down the line further from the #1 ranked guy at each position. Banks was on the Giants board and they gave up extra late picks to make sure they ended up with him when it got close. He meets Wink's defensive scheme's and philosophies better. Banks had better measurables at the combine with Athleticism ranked off the charts. Porter's profile shows a weakness in Press (while that's a strength of Banks) and Banks is also known as a hitter.

Carl Banks likes Banks lol - no relation I don't think
He didn't care about losing the picks in the trade
He said Dallas was lurking on the same player
He said there are still good OL and WR in later rounds

"Schoen gave the Jacksonville Jaguars picks No. 25, 160 (fifth round) and 240 (seventh round) to move up one spot to help his secondary.

That earned him a huge bear hug from Martindale, his defensive coordinator, in the draft room.

“You guys know Wink’s defense and what he likes,” Schoen said with a smile. “Deonte fits that mold to a ‘T.’ So he was ecstatic.”...

Multiple league sources believe Flowers would have been the Giants’ pick if he had slipped to 25, but he never made it there.

“The way it went down and the way the board fell, we were getting depleted,” Schoen admitted.

Giants draft crew is clever/smart/thorough

"So once the Jacksonville Jaguars came up on the clock at 24, Schoen said he executed a trade that he’d worked with Jags GM Trent Baalke ahead of time just in case...

“We track the 30 visits, and the reality is, the last four or five teams in a line there, when things looked like they were lining up for us, he visited a lot of those places,” the GM said. “So you take a lot of that into account, risk versus reward. Didn’t want to get greedy. Hey, this is a player we like, we covet, don’t get cute. Let’s just take him, and then we’ll move on to Day 2 of the draft.”

Schoen said he had options to trade back out of 25, too. And he also had a list of players at less premium positions that he could have selected if he’d stayed pat.

“When you’re picking at 25, we had multiple positions — and it may not be a popular position, but they were the best player available,” he said. “And we were prepared in different scenarios that we went through where we would have taken one of those players.”

Sounds to me like I wasn't the only internet GM that had questions since he had to address it. 😁

Traded up in the 3rd to 73 and picked Jalin Hyatt WR Tennessee. They are certainly filling needs.

So in your world no one has a right to critique moves made by front offices? Does that go for baseball, basketball and football teams. Is it safe to assume you've never had an opinion on that sort of stuff?
Please forgive me if I hurt your feelings.

I posted about him earlier
He's a deep ball WR
Had 207 yds and 5 TDs on only 6 receptions vs Bama
Of course a lot of that was Bama's fault.
A good long ball WR can strech the field and Eli didn't have that his last years because OL didn't allow the time for long balls

Sounds good

"John Michael Schmitz fell in the Giants' lap in the second round of the NFL Draft...

Schmitz, 24, after receiving the good news at his house in Homewood, Ill., said an offensive line deals with elite defensive lines by “setting the tone from the start.”

“You gotta be physical,” Schmitz said. “You gotta set the tone from the start – first quarter to fourth quarter. We always like to say, ‘if you run the ball, you gotta have body blows.’ The body blows turn into 25 and 30-yard touchdowns. You just gotta continue to wear those guys down. And eventually they’ll break."

Sounds like a great pick. Have to keep Jones upright and limit his running from the pocket. Sure that turned into a weapon for him but running QB's don't have long careers.

Long wait today because of the trades. At 209 I'd consider taking a chance (injury history) with Mohammed Ibrahim the RB from Minn. if he's still there. If he stays healthy he'd be a 3rd round value

Giants with hardest NFL schedule

"New York Giants? How about New York Road Warriors. After beginning the season at home against a good Cowboys team, they play seven of their next 10 matchups on the road! That's tough in itself, but New York also has this tough four-game stretch of playoff teams in the middle in San Francisco, Seattle, Miami and Buffalo. The Giants only get the Seahawks at home. How will the Giants fare if they get behind the eight ball early? Brian Daboll is the reigning Coach of the Year, but he went 3-4 on the road last season."

Giants also play Philly in 2 of the last 3 weeks
