More older movies that I don't think have been mentioned...

4. Gunga Din (1939) - If it didn't provide the template for the modern buddy action movie, I don't know what did.
5. Battleground (1949) - An awesome film about the Battle of the Bulge.
6. Olympia (1938) - Documentary about the 1936 Olympics by Leni Riefenstahl who also directed perhaps the best known propaganda film ever-- Triumph of the Will.

Nope. No gleaming the cube. I only consider that a 3* movie. And I can't believe I'm the only one who put down (unless I missed it) The Karate Kid. That movie was the shiznit back in the day. Everytime I watched it, I would crane-kick my sister's *** all over the living room. Good times indeed

If you liked LOTR, The Hobbit was phenomenal.

I've heard they use some new highspeed camera or something and made some people nauseous. Ive seen some HDTV's nowadays that the picture looks really fake and unfluid sort of like a soap opera. Please tell me someone on here knows what Im talking about.

Anyways did you notice any of that?

No. Of course I'm not a sucker for 3D either. The regular 2D version looks as beautiful at the original LOTR series except you can see more detail. I will go see the 3D version this weekend, but keep in mind the version people are complaining about is the 3D HFR version. It's a third format...High Frame Rate (48 fps). And yes, I hear it looks like a soap opera or when you set your tv to 120Hz. Living in Starkville, I think Slidell is the closest place with a HFR projector.

But to answer your question, the 2D version is absolutely spectacular.

Thats what I meant, the 48 FPS not 3D. When it's like that on a TV its unbearable to watch for me. So when I go to the Starkville theater it will be normal? I had heard the thing was shot HFR for all of 2D; this is the first I have heard of 3 formats.

Hope it's regular frame rates like the originals and other movies. 17 change for change sake.

Yes, the soap opera effect is horrible. It comes from picture-smoothing functions that are (thankfully) optional on HDTVs. Unfortunately, this optional feature is usually turned on by default for the "wow" factor. But for most viewing, it sucks. I like it on animated movies, but that's it.

A battle of art vs technology is coming to a head. There is an intended haze that appears in most TV and movies (but not soap operas). This haze tends to disappear when technology strives to portray the most realistic picture possible, giving way to the soap opera look.

What I hate more than the soap opera look is that the foreground is unrealistically sharp in comparison to the background. It is bad enough that actors look like they are standing in front of fake backgrounds even when they are not.

See also the movie "300". It is intentionally made to look worn out or aged. But that effect comes off a little weird in HDTV.

All 2D versions are in 24fps. Only certain 3D versions will be in HFR. But there is a non-HFR 3D version as well. There is also an IMAX version and a IMAX 3D version, neither of which are HFR.

Starkville has 2D and 3D. Neither being HFR.

Stargate without Colonel O'neill was just awful. Even with his cameos as a general. Serenity was really good if you liked Firefly. It is a crime that there was only one season and the one movie. I feel cheated that we miss out on Shepard's past.
