He always perplexed me - he was often name dropped as a great coach that his alma mater Iowa wanted and he was named Assistant Head Coach under Ash. Of course, the RU offense was not very good then, the best lineman and team captain left for OSU, and Coach Blazek left for North Dakota State…..and I remember him barely acknowledging Ash at that time.

Blazek leaving was one of the reason Jackson transferred out of RU.

Another coach people here claimed was the worst in the country and would never work again………

Oh I remember the opposite.
When he was hired that people were saying he was a future HC candidate.

It's pretty amusing actually searching through the old posts.

When he was hired, sure. Few games in???????
If people took the time to search most of that staff they’d see they ended up just fine

@RUScrew85 & I took a trip out to the Dakotas in 2019. We spent the day in Fargo with AJ and his family at NDSU. Got to hold their championship trophy try on the rings. Amazing how little they have and how they're able to win/get to the championship on the FCS level almost every year.

How little? They have a dome and their facilities are very solid for FCS

Looking back- it seems the issues may have been more Ash than Blaze. But they inherited some really good OL and they just seemed misused..,

Ash was a career defensive coach.
I would doubt he had much impact on the offense.
Surely most blame should go to the "alleged" great offensive coaches that were hired.

My wife and I went out to Fargo / Grand Forks 2 years ago for some college hockey games. We flew in to Fargo on a Thursday and toured the NDSU football offices/Fargo Dome the next day. Everyone was so nice. Cool thing was seeing all their trophies. That Saturday they were playing South Dakota St and we were able to watch about half before heading back to Grand Forks for the hockey game.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we were the only Rutgers fans to have that experience there. 😃. Not much to do in ND but we did go to the Roger Maris museum as well. For being a storefront in a mall, it was pretty cool.
