Honestly - could any one individual possibly squander natural talent more than this clown.

The Browns are just as stupid for drafting him in the first round. They knew what they were getting themselves into that is why 21 other teams said no thanks. Oh, and he sucks btw.
I still think his talent was the type that dominates college but rarely dominates the NFL.
Stupid? oh yeah ... and he thinks he is so smart - so smart that he thinks he can be clever enough to continue to lead the lifestyle that got him in trouble - but he is wrong - and is only clever enough to fool himself. Not sure what it will take to open his eye to the reality that the battle to hang on to his football career is only a small part of the real fight that he is in - he has his whole life pushed out there on the ledge and it is hanging off the edge in a pretty precarious manner. If it came out that he had cheated through the whole detox program - it would not be a surprise. It is pretty clear that he needs to get committed to cleaning up (all the way) - or this is going to be a long & ugly story.

Browns were dumb - guy had a larger than life persona - they drafted him thinking he was going to tone it down. It's like going into a relationship and thinking you can change someone - maybe happens for a little, and maybe over the long haul somebody will change, but you should never go in expecting. Browns got exactly what they bought. Btw still think he has a ton of potetnial, but also think it's not going to happen for him in Cleveland.
They have a habit of overreaching for QBs in the first round always dreaming about the next Bernie Kosar or Brian Sipe. Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden, Manziel and there's probably more im missing.
I could see him in Dallas next year. Jerry Jones had to be talked out of taking him in the draft. Not sure how much Romo will play.

The police report (on TMZ) from his incident with his girlfriend paints an ugly picture of him (though certainly she is no angel herself). The incident sounds like the early stages of domestic violence. I hope that's not the case.
Maziel may need to be completely humiliated if he is going to commit to changing the way he behaves and thinks.

The guys a millionaire with and without football. He's proven that he can actually move the ball in The NFL. Do you guys think he and his agent may just want out at Cleavland?
He hasn't "proven that he can actually move the ball in The NFL" nearly enough to make up for the negative impacts of the stories about his behavior. He MIGHT get a chance with another team, but it is no certainty.

Namath was a very different time. It is kind of ironic that with as free and easy this world seems in many ways today, it is also a glass house for high profile stars. Today's contracts have a lot of clauses that give the teams multiple exits if the guy doesn't toe certain lines.

Different times indeed. I don't drink. But that's my choice. Maybe Johnny Manziel has a problem and needs help. But if he does his job on the field (which is questionable), what's the problem if he wants to go out, get drunk and have some fun with young women? Isn't that one of the reasons young men aspire to be athletes (or rock stars)? Isn't it his choice?
As someone mentioned above, it is not just his drinking that will end his NFL career, it is that his drinking was already cited in a domestic incident with his girlfriend. The NFL has shown us with the Hardy/Peterson/Rice stories that they will forgive anything if you are good enough, but Manziel hasn't shown anywhere near the amount of success that would make most teams want to pick him up if released.

It astounds me when professional talent elevators buy into the ESPN/Baltimore car salesman hype and draft these sorts of guys.
Johnny is a product of his environment and no matter how much he's browbeaten, insulted or ridiculed it's not enough to change his behavior. In the end it will take a sad event to straighten out his behavior. Yes Joe Namath (sp) was a partying animal but I believe he won a NC at Alabama and Super Bowl with the Jets. They suffered from they same illness but were two totally different patients. One more thing about the ladies in those pics, what was perceived to be a pig in 1970 qualifies as a Sunday school choir girl today. Big big difference!!
