Ok. Back to Yankee baseball. Yankee Captain Thurmon Munson died in a plane crash in which he was flying on August 2, 1979. The next day the Yankees began a 4 game home stand with the Baltimore Orioles. During a pre game ceremony all the Yankees went to their positions for a moment of silence for the fallen captain except for the catcher whose spot remained empty until after the ceremony. I couldn't miss this one. Billy is a friend of mine. I used to go by the family sporting goods a lot. Billy worked there the during the summer even after going with the Broncos. So down to earth that you forgot he was an All-American football player and a NFL player. He was always messing around and kidding with anyone. After football he went to work for the FBI. His brother Curry told me he was in on some big time white-collar bust that had scammed a lot of people out of investments back in the 90's. I haven't seen Billy in a while and understand he has retired from the FBI now. Truly if you ever met him you would think he's just your run of the mill everyday Duke fan. His brother Curry is a face book friend but I never have thought about to check to see if Billy is on face book. OFC

Just for those interested I got in touch with Billy's brother through face book and he confirmed that Billy retired from the F.B.I. and does security work part time. He has homes in Birmingham Ala. and his hometown of Burlington , N.C. Billy played at Duke when there wasn't a lot of really good football players coming through. To become an All-American was indeed rare for a Duke player. OFC

My dad met Enos Slaughter at a baseball card show when I was a kid and got him to autograph one of his baseball cards and a baseball for me while I was in the hospital having surgery

Al Woodall was supposed to be Duke's starting QB in 1968 but flunked out. Sophomores Leo Hart and Dave Trice split time early before Hart pulled away.
