Baseball: League of Their Own has to get a mention. Sandlot, Major League and 42 also great. Field of Dreams is way to sappy but any movie that brings a new phrase to the language ( Build it and they will come) is noteworthy.

Rocky II was easily the worst of the original three movies.

Baseball: Eight Men Out
Football: North Dallas Forty
Auto Racing: Grand Prix
Basketball: Hoosiers

Generally, I find most sports movies to be mediocre.

Interesting on how Hoosiers seems to be the consensus number 1 basketball movie and opinions vary on the other sports. If you put Hoosiers aside is there any other basketball movie that people really like?

This is a topic often debated in the wrestling world. In my corner of that world, Vision Quest usually wins, with the caveat that, although the quality of the actual wrestling was good, there were too many showstopper moves designed to look exciting in a movie...

Also, I think Moneyball is up there for baseball. I know enjoy it...

I thought Blue Chips was good, I was close to putting that instead of Hoosiers.
We should have got cam a tractor like Ricky roe got !

Blue chips is very similar to the football movie The Program. Both are pretty realistic and show things many people don’t want to believe about college athletics .
Excellent movies

"Rocky" is a great movie (each sequel goes downhill) but "Cinderella Man" is the best boxing movie.

"Slap Shot" is probably the best sports comedy, but "Miracle" is the best hockey movie.

And I'll nominate "The Sandlot" as the best youth sports movie.

I gave you a like but disagree on the Rocky take.
Rocky 2, 4 are amazing. Whatever the last one was called was great as well.

Baseball Has to be FEVER PITCH w/ Jimmy Fallon.

What unbelievable luck to produce the film in the midst of an actual world series championship run for the Red Sox , Captures the essence of what it is to be a fan

That was supposed to be a different ending, they had to rewrite it at the last minute while filming because of the World Series win. In fact, the original movie had to be rewritten at the last minute as well. As that was based on soccer and Arsenal won the Championship as they were filming. Perhaps they could do a Rutgers version next.
