Anybody have any recommendations for guides out west for elk, moose, or mule deer out west? Share any stories and pictures you've got from western hunts too.

Wes Atkinson of Atkinson Expeditions in Wellington, Colorado. It is a 27K acres of private ranch and bulls are 265-340" I killed mine (6x6) on the 3rd day of the 5 day hunt and he was a nice 270" bull. Very nice for a free range/fair chase hunt.

For mule deer or antelope go with Rusty Bogers of A Double J Outfitters in Buffalo, WY. Tell Wes and Rusty that Scott sent you. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll email you picks of my elk (2007) and antelope (2012)

MSU alum and badass guide

This guy is great and he's a forestry alum. Here's his list of guided hunts - he specializes in birds, from Canada to south America, but he does great big game hunts out west through Canada. Great experience, he will put you on game, period. If he doesn't have a trip you like, he will hook you up with someone who does.

Lobo outfitters in New Mexico. I went with 3 other MSU grads. We all killed 6x6 bulls. Dick Ray is considered one of the top 5 elk guides in US. Real hunting. Fair chase. Look up website.

Not sure how those rates compare, just heard they were in business and remembered the name of it, haven't been myself.

I hunt public land without a guide. Hunting mule deer was my introduction to CO and I have retired here. Send me your email with a PM and I will send you some pics from our area. A good ranch bull will cost 10 - 15k, a guided hunt would be 2 - 5k, and public land hunts (and we have good success rates in our area) are basically cost of transportation, lodging, and licenses. Right now it is taking three years to draw for bucks in good areas (CO is divided into areas) but you can buy OTC for bulls second season and later in some areas. Sometimes you can find a private land buck tag for 1,000 - 1,200 (plus cost of license) and increase your chances (after securing landowner permission). Took a 29 inch 6 x 5 with good mass last year - nice buck.
