Can't rule out windmills on this one:

"a 28-foot-long female who appears to have died from blunt and sharp force trauma consistent with a vessel strike, according to preliminary results from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration."

All depends on if the battles takes place on land or sea, right?
Maybe not, as we now have a new contender: say hello to Cocaine Hippo! Crazy story: drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar imported several hippos into Colombia and after he died in 1993, they escaped from his property (a male and 3 females) and their population has since exploded to over 200, as there are no natural predators for them and they're quite aggressive and a risk to humans. And Cocaine Hippo can fight both on land and in the water...

That sole grand-daddy male is one lucky hippo, what with the population exploding and all. Got to live the hookers and blow lifestyle the way it was intended to be lived.

They're annoying and should be built in places where there are relatively few people. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Interstate 80 through Wyoming could power half the country and disturb not a single soul.

The truth is, you probably don't want to live 700 meters from any power generating facility.
Truth. And I’m glad to hear the **** arts are feeling better now.

I wouldn't live next to a big windfarm, but I just camped next to a small cluster of windmills and it really didn't impact the experience at all. Great mountain views in the middle of nowhere, and the windmills were just a relaxing part of the scenery - more lighthouse, less power plant.

To keep it level, I don't think a few oil derricks would bother me either. And old mining towns are great to visit.

I realize some may want this on the current events board but I'm pretty sure 90% of the people on this board go to the Jersey shore on a fairly regular basis and even use electricity in their homes, so felt it was important to get the word out so at the very least people are aware of how it will effect them. Phil Murphy has quietly auctioned off the entire coast of NJ to foreign wind farm companies and they have plans to build massive wind farms off the coast from Staten Island to Cape May. They will be visible on a clear day from the beach. For those of you thinking, oh great, its free electricity, think again. Everywhere these are used, the electricity bills skyrocket to 2x or 3x what people were paying. The first one being built is down here in South Jersey and when Ocean City attempted to fight back and say, you will not be running your cables through our beaches and our towns to the generator on land, Phil Murphy took away home rule across the entire state. It used to mean that towns had final say in what happens in their town, but now, that is no longer the case. The state decides what is best. Regardless of how you feel, its important to know the facts. Read the article linked below and look at the pictures where it shows the wind farms will be located. If you want more info there is a NJBPU virtual public hearing on the topic tonight at 7PM.

Here is a link to the article

On the OC beach right now. No dead whales or windmills to report. :)

Looks like its full steam ahead for the wind farms. Murphy just handed out $200 million in tax incentives to the foreign company.

Interesting quote from Murphy... The governor said the state would likely lose the business if it hadn’t stepped up.

“This was binary. Either we get this bill done and the industry thrives here and the jobs that are associated with it — or it goes somewhere else.”

ummm, where is it going Phil?

Much of world, it seems, is in serious need of a vacation from TV, Radio, newspapers, and the internet. For at least a couple weeks, more is better.

Get out and talk with people, strangers or friends, about the simple joys of life, lightning bugs, laughter, a cool drink on a hot day, stuff like that. Avoid anyone who wants to talk about what's wrong with anything (like the plague).

Trust me, you'll feel a lot better. The world will be okay without your constant attention.

You go first and tell us how it works out. 🙂

Someone should calculate how far offshore the windmills need to be to not be visible given the curvature of the earth. The horizon for someone standing on the beach is about three miles but these WMs are what, 500 foot tall ?
Curved earth ? Ha. Half the posters here reject your suggestion out of hand.

I kinda mostly have for decades. Even more so now.

I don’t watch news shows or talk shows, or any kind of serious TV, don’t listen to radio, don’t read newspapers, don’t spend any time in political areas of forums, etc. And I’ve never been happier, or more relaxed. OTOH, I’m naturally happy and relaxed, so I might not be the best example.

Can't wait to hear people whining about the windmills being visible, because we know that's 99% of what's really going on with R's faux concern with marine mammals - they had to find something to cloak their concerns in, but fortunately, the science is pretty clear that the windmills pose little threat (and especially the work done so far). I'm sure once the windmills are built, they'll come up with something "new" like windmills causing autism or some other medical malady that spikes up after the windmills are built. Aside from that, I'm very happy to see this alternative energy effort moving forward. Well done Gov Murphy.

Yep, and don’t forget that many suburban school libraries will ban books that mention them in a positive light.

OK. Who hacked fsg2's account? support for oil and mining? or is it just historic (fake) oil and mining aesthetic you can support?

New Jersey BOPU will pass all the costs of these windfarms on to the ratepayers.
And tax breaks? If this is such a good idea why do they need tax breaks?
Oh yeah, because they are not financially competitive with other generation methods.
Why not a small nuclear at Oyster Creek? Much infrastructure already in place.

When someone like that says “ the science is clear” run for the hills! Guy can’t even operate a spatula in his own house and consequently has to eat out all the time. This is a guy you want to take advice from?

There's probably 100 things that I can do that you can't. Does that make you stupid?

Why don't you make a scientific case for windmills killing whales? We'll wait - and be prepared to laugh. Also, we eat out a lot because we enjoy food that expert chefs in various cuisines create (which is better than what 99% of us can make), but can also make some excellent meals when the mood strikes. And last time I checked, cooking proficiency isn't connected to scientific acumen.
