i think he's locked in at SJU. Its close to homeAlso, wonder if Pitino would prefer Providence to St Johns
I never did too . Thought he was just using this to get a better deal at PC.i am shocked...never thought he would leave
He lives pretty close to the SJ campusAlso, wonder if Pitino would prefer Providence to St Johns
Cooley had it made there. Expectations were not high and everyone loved him.I’m stunned.
Providence is a really good gig

Wow, I never thought of it this way.Cooley had it made there. Expectations were not high and everyone loved him.
That kind of money is going to come with high expectations.Wow, I never thought of it this way.
I don't know this for a fact in any way, but my belief is that he could have had the Maryland job last year, but elected to stay put. Maybe more connected Maryland people know otherwise.
6 mil a year a a lot of dough, though...
True. I know for sure that Georgetown fans are very demanding (and nothing wrong with that)...That kind of money is going to come with high expectations.
I think Cooley is a great guy, not a great coach.
G-Town seems like it could be a great place to recruit to.
Same here.i am shocked...never thought he would leave
Not at that salary.I feel bad for him, he's going to regret it.
More NIL at Georgetown. That was an issue at Providence, per reports I’ve read recently.Cooley was born in Providence, Rhode Island but all three of his current assistants are all DMV guys. Maybe he feels he will be more successful as a coach moving his staff to the DMV area, maybe lost out on good recruits last few years, and of course the bump in pay helps.
Sid Lowe at NCSUI can't think of the last two starters for my theoretical team of very good or better basketball players who failed as head coach of their alma maters.
C: Patrick Ewing
SF: Chris Mullin
G: Eddie Jordan
Nominees welcome for the last two spots, or more to push Fast Eddie to the bench.
Cooley is 53. Even if he only lasts four year at Georgetown at that rate, he could still land one more job before he hangs up his clipboard. I think he will be fine with this move.

How does Kevin Ollie fit? Success for winning it all of failure for being fired on disgraceSid Lowe at NCSU
Looking up articles on Cooleys recent extension and it’s glaring how other local media doesn’t always focus on the salary figures. Couldn’t even find mention of his buyout. Salaries are usually RU coach headlines around here.
@kyk1827 Also if Cooley is really going to get $6M a year at Georgetown then Pikiell’s $4M a year (not until 2028 season) is peanuts.
Brey going to USF in Tampa...stop on the way to retirement?Guess it wasn't Brey or Shrewbury
Not directly related, but Georgetown endowment is over $3.2 billion....NIL/P4P will dwarf PC and it's a way to carry on JT's legacy. Cooley also loves Rehoboth Beach.More NIL at Georgetown. That was an issue at Providence, per reports I’ve read recently.
Cooley actually interviewed at RU years ago. Not sure if it was vs Mike Rice or Pikeil.
you being a Maryland fan I can understand you wanting that game.I would like to see a Georgetown revival, and an annual Maryland-Georgetown game again (although that is problematic for Georgetown, and I don't think that game happens much in the future)...
