Cooley had it made there. Expectations were not high and everyone loved him.
Wow, I never thought of it this way.

I don't know this for a fact in any way, but my belief is that he could have had the Maryland job last year, but elected to stay put. Maybe more connected Maryland people know otherwise.

6 mil a year a a lot of dough, though...

That kind of money is going to come with high expectations.
I think Cooley is a great guy, not a great coach.
G-Town seems like it could be a great place to recruit to.

True. I know for sure that Georgetown fans are very demanding (and nothing wrong with that)...

Cooley was born in Providence, Rhode Island but all three of his current assistants are all DMV guys. Maybe he feels he will be more successful as a coach moving his staff to the DMV area, maybe lost out on good recruits last few years, and of course the bump in pay helps.

More NIL at Georgetown. That was an issue at Providence, per reports I’ve read recently.

Cooley actually interviewed at RU years ago. He was at Fairfield at that time and was vs Mike Rice I believe. But Tim had already decided to hire Rice. It was thought that Cooley would jump from RU to Providence when that job opened.

I can't think of the last two starters for my theoretical team of very good or better basketball players who failed as head coach of their alma maters.

C: Patrick Ewing
SF: Chris Mullin
G: Eddie Jordan

Nominees welcome for the last two spots, or more to push Fast Eddie to the bench.

Cooley is 53. Even if he only lasts four year at Georgetown at that rate, he could still land one more job before he hangs up his clipboard. I think he will be fine with this move.

Another case of take the money and run.
Can't blame him one bit for taking the Hoya position and the job he has done as the Friars HC makes me believe he'll bring Georgetown back to being a top BE program.

Looking up articles on Cooleys recent extension and it’s glaring how other local media doesn’t always focus on the salary figures. Couldn’t even find mention of his buyout. Salaries are usually RU coach headlines around here.

I would like to see a Georgetown revival, and an annual Maryland-Georgetown game again (although that is problematic for Georgetown, and I don't think that game happens much in the future)...

Guess it wasn't Brey or Shrewbury
Brey going to USF in Tampa...stop on the way to retirement?

Pitino leveraging PC and SJU. 50/50 right now. You know he loves NYC and is a member at Winged Foot, but SJU facilities are the worst in the conference. Wouldn't be surprised if he did a return to PC.

Not directly related, but Georgetown endowment is over $3.2 billion....NIL/P4P will dwarf PC and it's a way to carry on JT's legacy. Cooley also loves Rehoboth Beach.

you being a Maryland fan I can understand you wanting that game.
As for me all the BE schools can play with themselves and keep their OOC rivalries with Religious schools. like Notre Dame, Gonzaga , BYU, Baylor and programs like that.
Actually rivalries like that might be fun to see.
My prejudice against BE schools is manily based on the way the BE basketball schools made the football side of conference more like an unwanted guest than part of the family.
