Figures released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture show that the average cost of one dozen eggs is now significantly cheaper than in recent days. The economic indicator website Trading Economics shows that a dozen eggs were $5.51 on Tuesday, more than $2 cheaper than "an all-time high of 8.17 in March of 2025." This represents a decrease of nearly 33 percent.

Welcome to the wonderful world of modern commodity trading where shít goes wildly up and down for no apparent reason.
That would drive me crazy, it's hard to plan a spreadsheet when you don't know what your prices are going to be whether it's inputs or sales.

A dozen is $5.99 at Krogers in Jackson. They're $8.99 if you have fallen prey to the organic, free range nonsense like my wife.

It’s always been crazy but it’s even worse now because of algorithms that aggregate information from news headlines etc. A lot of the human element has been taken out and the volatility is off the charts.
My theory is that the algorithms just mimic human behavior albeit at a fast pace. They are just highlighting how wishy washy we are by accelerating decision making based on our craziness. What used to be slow cycles is now whiplash.

Robert Kennady was asked about this. He said the bird flu is not going away. It is spread my migrate birds that does not suffer from the effects of the flu. it is deadly to chickens. Frying chickens are housed away from outdoors where the egg laying chickens are not. Looks like they are going to have to house those chickens as well. This has been going on now for 2.5 years. I don't see egg prices dropping a whole lot for the near future. Now if it starts to affect tit cows, where we get our milk from, I will be upset. I drink a lot of skim milk but don't eat eggs.

Every big egg laying facility that I’ve ever been to is housed just like broilers are.
The bird flu is in the broilers flocks too, but he is correct that wild birds are the ones that are spreading the flu.

Yeah. Biden killed off chickens during his term and so did Trump. Hopefully they figure out a SENSIBLE way to slow the transmission.

If one bird in a chicken house gets it, they pretty much all will get it, and they pretty much all will die from it.

That was my biggest fear with letting everyone into this country like they did. I kind of wonder is the measle outbreak in Texas has something to do with it. I know a lot of these diseases have been eradicated over the years but still get the vaccines.
So are you implying that people from countries who haven’t eradicated diseases, might take diseases with them when migrating to new countries? I doubt that could happen. We have very stringent health screenings for all legal immigrants.

But the bio-security on all poultry farms is very high. If you have chicken houses of any kind you are not allowed to keep any type of fowl on your property such as ducks turkeys yada yada. And the chicken houses are pretty tight. Wild birds really could only get in between flocks when you have the doors up cleaning out.

Measles is still pretty widespread in many places. Most US cases until very recently were from unvaccinated Americans travelers who caught it overseas. The difference now is that our vaccination rates have dropped well below the level needed to prevent outbreaks started by the occasional traveler.

Dumbasses not getting vaccinated is the real cause of this outbreak. I can't understand how schools don't require the MMR.
