Matt Evasick at MS Music is highly recommended. But he hasn't called me back. Maybe he is full up.

Who else?

You Tube - Marty Schwartz

Or choose any of the 1,000 others that have great beginner guitar lessons on line. Start there before you pay
somebody a lot of money.

Yeah, no doubt. I still love NextLevelGuitar on youtube. You can download jam tracks from their website, theory lessons, everything.

Free lesson. Practice the **** out of swapping in any order from A B C D E and G. Once you're comfortable then google the tabs for the songs you want to learn. Those are the most used chords. Most songs will have a version of those with a couple of different chords thrown in.

That was how I taught myself. The hard part for me was ignoring the other instuments while listening to a song I want to learn. There's so many songs that use the same chords that it's just a matter of the order, how you strum, and the rhythm. And yes, that's what she said.

My bro in law lives in Madison.

He is the creator and owner of DC guitar lessons. You can take them online or in person. He is extremely good. He plays at Juleps, Georgia Blue, and all those places around Jackson and Madison.

I agree with those saying you should start with online lessons before paying anyone.

I play bass. But I did buy an acoustic guitar a few years ago, and when I did, I found a guy named Justin Sandercoe online with a ton of free lessons. Here's a link to his lesson index: http://justinguitar.com/en/AA-000-LessonIndex.php

I play bass exclusively now and haven't picked up my guitar in some time. But his lessons seemed helpful when I was viewing them. His lessons more follow a "from the ground up" approach (which I prefer) rather than "I want to learn how to play _________." But he also has specific song lesson videos.

Anyway... Just another online option.

The guys at Fondren guitars seem cool and they are really nice. I sold a big baby taylor to them last year. They were really fair and he said that he has bought about fifty of those guitars over the years because he does so many lessons.

I can second and third this. Marty is a very good online teacher. Make sure you sign up for his email so you get his chord eBook. I was taught professionally 30 years ago and this guy is much better and most of his stuff is free on YouTube. My daughter is in the process of learning now. Guitar, especially acoustic, can be self-taught with some discipline. Almost no one who plays professionally ever took lessons. Most learned by ear and play using tablature instead of reading notes on sheet music.

Did you have trouble keeping your Taylor in tune? The first guitar I bought my daughter was a Taylor and I had to sand the bridge down and re adjust the truss rod to get a backbow out before I could get the strings anywhere near the fretboard. I use a quarter to check the string clearance all the way down. I play Ovation and never had this problem.

Anyone tried that PS3 game?

It apparently allows you to plug a guitar with a pickup into the PS3 and teaches you how to play. I've wondered if it really works.

Haven't tried that but Guitar Hero convinced an entire generation of kids that they can actually play a guitar. It's like that annoying-*** "air guitar" kid on the baseball game commercials. I'm Justin "Nordic Thunder" Howard and I'm retarded!
