OT: HB1422 passes 67-45

Does anyone know what our Governors stance is on this issue?? I hope the Baptist don't get a hold of him first..
but I think the main reason behind it making it through this time is due to the change in the Chair of the Senate Finance committee.

Typically, a motion to reconsider must be entered by someone who voted with the prevailing response. That being Smith.
As this is backwoods ******** Mississippi legislator, it probably went something like "Smith, remember that bill that helps your district you entered? Yeah, if you want to see it out of committee, you'll move to reconsider this heathen beer law."
A motion can be entered to table the discussion, which pretty much negates the motion to reconsider.
It's a horseshit move. And another reason I don't think this is the year.

The town where I live is trying to get resort status in order to sell liquor and wine.....our state rep drinks beer on the reg, but voted against it (after getting letters in support of the law from every civic organization in town) basically because the Baptists got to him

Almost all bills are held on a motion to reconsider. It is common for the committee chairman who brought the bill out (Smith in this case) to enter the motion.<div>
