1. I'm extremely pleased it finally passed.

2. I'm extremelydisgusted withhow obvious it is that our legislatures votes are bought, since AB changing course immediately got this thing through.

but I think the main reason behind it making it through this time is due to the change in the Chair of the Senate Finance committee.

He was against it last year

Bryant said in an e-mailed statement that he did "not see a reasonable public benefit to increasing the alcohol content in Mississippi."
so much for quality of life in mississippi... let's hope he's changed his stance. peoplewho don't drink beer shouldn't get a vote in this.

But, now that Raise Your Pints can focus the lobby energy on the Senators, it could happen next year.</p>

Typically, a motion to reconsider must be entered by someone who voted with the prevailing response. That being Smith.

As this is backwoods ******** Mississippi legislator, it probably went something like "Smith, remember that bill that helps your district you entered? Yeah, if you want to see it out of committee, you'll move to reconsider this heathen beer law."

A motion can be entered to table the discussion, which pretty much negates the motion to reconsider.

It's a horseshit move. And another reason I don't think this is the year.

The town where I live is trying to get resort status in order to sell liquor and wine.....our state rep drinks beer on the reg, but voted against it (after getting letters in support of the law from every civic organization in town) basically because the Baptists got to him

Which leads me to this joke.......What is the difference between a Mississippi Methodist and a Mississippi Baptist????? The Methodists will all speak to each other in the liquor store.

Almost all bills are held on a motion to reconsider. It is common for the committee chairman who brought the bill out (Smith in this case) to enter the motion.<div>
</div><div>The motion will be tabled with little to no resistance (especially if done so on a Friday).</div>
