I don't mean family/financially/vocationally/health-wise - just, everything. Seems like this week, I've seen more lack of attention, basic screw-ups, etc than I can recall (and believe it or not, even ME!). And I'm talking about generally competent, bonafide grown-ups here.

Feels like folks are just barely hanging on in all facets. Yall good?

FYI for those interested in their health. You can participate in Heart and Lung and sleep/stress studies at UAB. They pay you (not much) but give you the results (valuable info). For the sleep/stress study you'll have to wear pulseox and heart monitor for a week , complete daily survey's and exit interview which can be kind of personal but its anonymous.

Middle age. It is harder and harder to not be more and more cynical. About everything. I have accepted that things change, but when will they change for the better? Every change I am seeing downright sucks.

College sports is a good example. It's been shltty decision after shltty decision. Why are we doing it if it sucks?

I refuse to move to Boyle or Garrard Counties, KY just for a free health study.***

I've ratcheted up my cynicism and combined it with a healthy dose of sarcasm, mixed with just a hint of defeatism and alcohol. Otherwise, business as usual.

I'm navigating the American Healthcare System for something major for the first time in my life. It's eye opening how messed up it is.
I just bought a vehicle for my youngest. Its hitting me that she will be off to college in a couple years.
Work is fine but some ****** decisions are being made that make me worry about the future.

I get tired of being told I'm middle age. I'm middle 50's. If I live past 100 I'm gonna bust up into those pearly gates angry about it!

Retired. Don’t watch the news. Don’t read the news. Play golf once a week. Shoot skeet once a month at least. Don’t really know what day it is but it’s been awhile since Sunday so it must be getting close to the weekend again. The world may be going to hell in a hand basket but I won’t know about it until after the fact. Nope, no struggles here.

Did anyone have a surprise reduction in their auto insurance this month? Out of the blue my agent texted me and told me my premium was dropping by 10% on one of my vehicles.
Yeah but my house went up, and like @615dawg I had to buy a new car and have a teenager about to get a license. Got another one coming in 2 years.

Agent just told me to go on and bend over.

Thanks for asking. Hope it gets better for you.

Me? The last couple of years have been the greatest couple of years of my life, as long as I exclude MSU football from the equation.

Wife and I were just talking about some of the expensive residential real estate developments around Madison and wondering.....How in the hell ? It seems the folks struggling are REALLY strugglig and the folks living "high on the hog" are REALLY living "high on the hog" . I have a feeling all the various kinda of debts we've accumilated (housing, ceadit cards, car loans etc) are going to REALLY bite us in the arse before long .

Where do you shoot skeet, if I may ask?

This is the correct strategy.

Peace of mind is a beautiful thing.

It all starts with shutting out the noise of the over-bearing media and fake news.

I am envious of and proud of the optimism and passion that my 19yo and 15yo have for life.
They are both already pretty 17ing cynical because they have to be when so much of what they see in life is secretly staged, or AI, or gaslighting, or just outright lies...but damn I am really happy to see both of them have a true joy for experiencing things for the first time. I try hard to keep that in mind when we are doing something I am used to or seeing something I have seen, but it is new to them. I think nothing of something they are amazed by or fascinated by, so giving them that time to enjoy something that is new is actually fun to do.

I hope they manage to keep that excitement through the coming years because cynicism, dismissiveness, and disdain for much of what is happening around you is not ideal.

This is true. Look no further than all these folks funding college football teams with an income rounding error, while average fans are sitting at the house watching it on TV because they can't afford going. I don't know what the separator is, as far as income, but it's there.

The problem is when this gap gets so big that there is a reckoning. Happens internationally too. I always said that if I ever got rich I certainly wouldn't flaunt it, like so many do. Those people also have no idea how the other half lives - almost view them as not even real humans. And it's all fine, I got no problem with someone who makes money, but you'd be surprised at how many people out there did NOT earn their money.

I had my company vehicle taken away on Tuesday after putting a deposit on a pool on Monday. I was not looking to have to buy a truck. Dammit.............

For years, my wife and I will randomly tell each other that we must have missed the free Wealth Accumulation seminar at the airport Holiday Inn that everyone else our age seems to have gone to 20 years ago.
Houses that are 2x the size of ours and cost 3-4x more, cars that cost 2x-3x ours, etc etc. But then we will remind each other about what we choose to spend our money on instead, how we dont have debt besides some years left on our house, and we accept it until the next time one of us looks around in bewilderment at how much money peers are spending on things we dont spend on.

Its an odd cycle to go through a few times each year.
