Specifically for engagement rings. I'm always impressed by the knowledge of posters on the pack on any random subject.

Where in the North Miss area do y'all recommend? I saw Johnny Sides from Philadelphia mentioned in a previous thread, but can't find any info about him. Can anyone help me out with that?

Also saw Van Atkin's and Jeweler's bench get some pretty good recommendations.

stein jewelers in jackson (madison) is good. picked up a cool engagement ring with a nice stone and didnt feel like i was getting fleeced in the process. the have some more traditional looking options and seemed less mass produced and the quality was there. you may not be interested in that drive though.

You can show them what you want, and they will sell it for half off, plus 10% of retail. You get to pick out the exact diamond and setting you want.

The process is a little different. Yiu have to go through a metal detector and have your picture taken, and they are cash only. But you won't be disappointed in service, quality, and price.

seriously though, see if you can find a whole sale guy. Saved around 30% off store price on engagement and got matching wedding band. She even knows and didn't care.

Use Jamie Parkerson @ the Jewelers Bench in Starkville when you come for a game. He is a great guy and an old room mate. Bought drop, chain, engagement rings, and 20 year anniversary ring from him.

The jewelry business is fraught with crooks because it's so easy to pull the wool over your eyes on the value of stones. Don't risk it

Buy the big stone online from a wholesaler in New York. The diamonds are laser numbered with grade cards. I saved thousands this way because cheaper and you also save sales tax on the biggest part of the purchase. I bought mine, had a seven day return policy, got it, took it to a local jeweler to verify it was what I paid for and made a steal of a deal in the end. Had my local guy set it and the little stones so built just like I wanted but saved on the big rock.

Drive to Birmingham and go to Diamond's Direct - it's worth. They mine their own diamonds - some they then design in-house and some they send to name-brand designers that even most guys have heard of. You can get GIA certified (the most extensive certification) or any of the other respectable certifications as well. It's simple business, middle man is cut out so they can offer the best prices. It's certified, so it's 100 percent not a rip off or cheap quality. I did a good bit of hunting in North MS, BHM, ATL, and you can't beat the deal.

Edited to add 19 months interest free financing w/ a down payment - the interest accrues, but if you pay off the ring in 19 months then you never have to pay any of it (standard practice w/ interest free, just wasn't sure if you were familiar with the mechanics). I didn't change my budget b/c of this, but certainly made the initial hit a little easier.

I do not have any affiliation with them - just a happy fiancee and a lack of significant debt. The ring I bought appraised for a good bit more than I paid for it.

I second the Jeweler's Bench. It's where I got my wife's engagement ring/wedding band. The pair on display would have looked gaudy on her finger, so they hooked me up with a custom wedding band that still matched the engagement ring.

As for your wedding band. I'd highly recommend getting a comfort fit. It's sort of rounded on the inside and much more comfortable.

Purchased my wife's engagement ring, diamond earrings, "push" presents, and anniversary/birthday presents from Jim Russell or his son, James. Great guys who won't steer your wrong and if you have a problem, they'll fix it.
