Framber Valdez to Detroit, 3 years, $115 M.

Just FYI at this point, as the Peralta trade ended the Mets involvement here, if there even was any.

Miguel Andujar to Padres, 1 year $4M.

Damn. I thought he might be the last piece. Maybe there won't be one. Still hoping for Marte.

And don’t forget this option from Costco too:

IMG_4663.jpeg

As previously mentioned, I did this last year. Seats were great. Price was so much cheaper than Ticketmaster or the Mets.

It’s also for almost every game. I was surprised the availability offered.

The option to pick your games for the first two months of the season goes online middle of February.

Skubal wins arbitration, $32MM.
Do the Tigers take a 1 year shot at pairing him and Valdez and try to win big or do they move him for what will be a massive return now?

They're keeping him and going for it.

The Mets have eight players on their current 40 man roster participating in the WBC:

Nolan McLean - USA
Clay Holmes - USA
Huascar Brazoban - DR
Juan Soto - DR
Mark Vientos - Nicaragua
Jared Young - Canada
Nick Morabito - Italy
Alex Carrillo - Mexico

Plus some other guys not on the 40 man, no top tier prospects.

Francisco Lindor is not playing due to insurance issues.

Skubal's the pitcher de jure. He's had 2.5 excellent seasons, preceded by three mediocre to worse seasons, and a Tommy John surgery and a flexor tendon surgery. Next year's a long way off, he'll be 30, and we'll see. Right now, I really don't care about the guy.

I guess- I mean, rookie year- pretty much just an average pitcher. 2nd year- cut short but for a 2nd year- numbers were good. 3rd year short year but very good when he pitched 4th year CY 5th year CY

not everyone comes in line Skenes. But yes, age would be a concern for a long term contract. 5 years at most.

For those who love their prospect rankings (and who doesn't?) here's the Mets Top 20 from Keith Law of The Athletic. The first four are conventional wisdom, but then it gets interesting:

1) Nolan McLean - RHP (15 in Top 100)
2) Carson Benge - OF (18 in Top 100)
3) Jonah Tong - RHP (72 in Top 100)
4) A. J. Ewing - 2B/OF (98 in Top 100)
5) Elian Pena - SS
6) Mitch Voit - 2B
7) Zach Thorton - LHP
8) Ryan Clifford - 1B/OF
9) Jacob Reimer - 3B
10) Nick Morabito - OF
11) Jonathan Santucci - LHP
12) Jack Wenninger -RHP
13) Will Watson - RHP
14) Chris Suero - C/1B
15) Daiverson Gutierrez - C
16) Marco Vargas - SS
17) Camden Lohman - RHP
18) Boston Baro - SS/2B
19) Edward Lantigua - OF
20) David Hurtado - LHP

RIP Terrance Gore, who passed away at the much-too-soon age of 34. Cause of death was "complications following routine surgery".

Gore was the consummate specialist, with 85 career plate appearances and three WS rings. We were hoping he'd get a fourth in 2022 with the Mets, but it was not to be.

I think Heyman is wrong. There's no way this is a major league deal. I bet it's a split. Melendez stinks on both sides of the ball.

I’m looking forward to the season starting. If all things go right, it could be a good season. I just don’t understand the construction of the team.

Did you ever fart in the catcher's face? - Stuttering John asks of Ted Williams.
I was going to post that, but decided against it. He also asked Tommy Lasorda why the Slim Fast stopped working. Different time and space when crude was funny.

And it was "fa, fa, far, far, far, fart" ;)

Why not post? Both are baseball related. This thread needs some levity at times. I see a couple of regulars getting prickly already and the first official workout isn't until Wednesday.

Interesting. Thought the Brewers really liked Durbin, but it appears they liked the three player return more. Durbin was part of the Devin Williams trade I believe.

That's correct about Durbin.

I don't think the Brewers have a 3B right now. Baty or Vientos trade?

Alzolay was viewed as the Cubs top pitching prospect a while back and they tried to make him the closer. Injuries and control issues did him in.

Thru the years we’ve seen relievers catch lightning in a bottle and have great years out of nowhere.
If Alzolay still has the big arm after his injuries, he could be a nice surprise. A return to his 2023 form would be a major asset in the pen.

I always liked him and rooted for him. It just didn’t work out. Coming into this situation, the hope would be that he developed other pitches as he recovered from his injury.
