Oh, OK. PCA might be a bargain.

I mean, I don't know where else someone from my gene pool would be able to play defensive line.

"Just as bad" is a reach. I'm back there now after living in Nashville and New Jersey. The schools are still great, and it's still quite safe unless you're in one of the Walmart area apartments. The downtown is 10x better than it was when I was growing up. I find it less pretentious than Madison (but Clinton is my hometown so I'm biased and am supposed to say this).

We didn't have a debate program. So, I had to seek out a teacher who taught speech and ask her to help me get involved. She sent away for materials from the Mississippi Forensics League and spent several Friday nights a year driving me to debate tournaments.

Good points all around, but +1 to the fellow debate nerd.

Yeah I shouldn't have used the word just as bad. I like Clinton. At least they are doing something proactive about the crime and trying to keep it out

There is a circle around Jackson. I55 then 220, then 20. Inside this circle is the "kill zone". don't live in the Kill Zone. Avoid the KZ at all costs.

So you are saying...

So you are saying that the student populations for Prep and St. Andrews are directly comparable to the student population of Madison Central? I can't believe for a moment that the average of native intelligence, financial background, and pressure from a "successful home" is even close at Madison Central to that of Prep and St. Andrews. To compare those schools is misleading. Take that into consideration before comparing National Merit awards...and the percentage by student body.

Read the rest of the thread before trying to slam me. I was responding to Quaoars King, he was trying to compare the schools. I think MC is a great school but it does not compare to the private schools. However, with the public schools now you have the new common core curriculum. That's for another thread though.

If you're smart enough and work hard enough, you can get a good education anywhere. We had Jr. ROTC from Jim Hill High School as the Color Guard at our church yesterday. They were a very impressive bunch. The Captain of the Guard got an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

If you are an involved parent and hold your kids accountable then Madison and

Germantown schools are great, especially if your kids can stay in the advanced courses. I would say the situation would be comparable to JA/Prep/SA. What you miss not going to the big Jackson private schools are better athletic opportunities to actually play and you also don't make the social connections in the public schools that you will make in the big privates. Frankly, I think a lot of parents send their kids to the big private schools mostly for these two reasons. Of course the education at JA/Prep/SA is sound too.

No mention of St Joe? It seems that school has made quite the comeback since it moved to Madison. My sister sends her kids there and she LOVES it.
