They should have been given the nuclear option for a couple years to reset the balance between academics and athletics.

My Problem with the last line of the article after referencing the Sandusky incident - “…they should be ashamed once more “ is that they can’t be ashamed once more since they weren’t ashamed the first time, and still aren’t

What do you expect from a program that hired a HC that was accused of interfering with his players rape case and a President that was part of mishandling a rape allegation.

After 4 of his players were accused of rape attorneys said Penn State HC Franklin when he was the Commodores HC and former Vanderbilt director of performance enhancement Dwight Galt contacted the victim during a medical examination four days after the alleged crime to say "they cared about her because she assisted them with recruiting."
Attorneys also alleged Franklin called the victim in for a private meeting about assembling a "pretty" team of female recruiting assistants, in knowing violation of NCAA rules. It is unclear whether that meeting was held before or after the alleged crime.

Under Penn State President Barron's watch when he was FSU's President, University administrators, in apparent violation of federal law, did not promptly investigate either the rape accusation or the witness’s admission that he had videotaped part of the encounter.

Records show that Florida State’s athletic department knew about the rape accusation early on, in January 2013, when the assistant athletic director called the police to inquire about the case. Even so, the university did nothing about it, allowing Mr. Winston to play the full season without having to answer any questions.
