We are considering new windows. Is the supply chain turmoil creating a long delay and significant increase in cost?

We plan to hire. I did windows 30 years ago but I am past that

Windows are ridiculously expensive before the supply chain issue. Cost me close to 1k each installed in 2012.

Yes. Ordered in early June. Windows will be here mid September.

Even though you will hire, it may be helpful to go to a place like Windowrama that has multiple brands. Price increase and delivery may vary by manufacturer. We also found a Marvin window that was less expensive than Andersen. They also had a better choice of options and configurations.

Yes. Delays will be extensive. I’m having an addition done. Windows & doors were ordered in early March and delivered to my GC just last Friday. Originally estimated 10-12 weeks; it took ~18.

Depends on what kind of window. I ordered some for a job, builders grade United Windows that took 4 weeks. Anderson 100 series in black...4 months.

Have you used Andersen 100s on other projects and what did you think of them? We used them in Arizona and liked them

We currently have builder grade so we are looking for a better quality

What is a good brand of window based on cost and quality? We did ours about 20+ years ago, might be time again. We used Thermoguard, came with a "lifetime warranty" and a few years later the company was out of business.

Check out the Marvin Elevate line. Highly recommend the Windowrama in Eatontown. The main sales guy their will explain the positives and negatives of each brand.

I have found contractors can become unreasonably wedded to a brand. While we still like Andersen, we put Marvin ahead of them.

Is it difficult to get a contractor to not use the brand they like?

Does that change the cost structure and make me the person to take care of the material purchase and the contractor installation only?

Some builders have discounts they can share with you. Plus, if you run into issues, they are not pointing fingers at each other.

@jtung230 makes good points. That depends on the contractor. The carpenter I work with prefers Andersen, but he is fine with Marvin.

They're ok. I like the United Windows more to be honest. I have 400 series Anderson in a new additional I built on our own home. Those are nice but most new windows are fine, just stay away from HD and Lowes. That's for rentals IMO.

I would say Anderson 200 or 400 series then but they are REALLY expensive. Like $900 a window just for the window. 2 years ago they were half that.

We put HD windows in a rental 22 years ago and they have held up.

Exactly. They're a cheap lower end window that does the job. I put United in my rentals unless a client asks for something else. Home Depot can get them quicker but I'm just personally not a fan and United is maybe 10% more and a better window to me anyway.

There’s a new build up the street from me on Lbi, they moved in this weekend. Garage doors are both plywood and they clearly made some last minute design changes to eliminate windows in some spots. Supply chain clearly still an issue

I had Okna windows installed. I was very impressed with the build quality and the price. I would highly recommend taking a look. They are built locally in Bristol Pa.

Iordered pella imprevia in June. Wait time is until late October. We were discussing Marvin vs pella. Marvin are arguably a better window. We liked the look of the pella bc they look more contemporary and that is our house look. Also the Marvin were even a longer wait time and I didn’t want to go into the winter.
Also the price is crazy expensive. Installing them expensive.
Your contractor should get 20 percent off if they order them and ask them to pass on 15 percent or whatever they can to you.

Yes, supply chain disruptions can indeed lead to delays and increased costs. It's a challenging situation for many industries. If you're planning to hire professionals for the job, that's a great idea! It can save you time and effort. If you're looking for affordable options, consider cheap Windows keys online. It can save you a lot of cash. I hope that helps!
