Actually just read Mets signed Adams to a non guaranteed split contract
This is not contradictory from what you said before. It is a major league contract and he must be protected on the 40 man. When he is on the major league roster (as he no doubt will be at some point, the way teams go through pitchers nowadays) he will get major league money. When he is not, he will get some lesser contractual amount, probably a couple hundred K, most likely more than most minor leaguers get.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that Ohtani is down to the Dodgers, Angels, Cubs, Blue Jays, and maybe Giants. Voluntarily or otherwise, Mets are out. It had previously been reported that Ohtani had misgivings about playing in New York.

A lot of great players have issues with playing in NY. The expectations are more significant, and the media and fans can be relentless. Some players want to play and not worry about the circus around them.

Crick is a strange story. He had signed a minor league deal with Tampa Bay prior to the 2023 season, and then opted out (which is not uncommon) when he didn't make the Rays opening day roster. He then took the entire season off. Whether this was due to physical problems or personal issues, I cannot say.

He is currently pitching winter ball in the DR, and I guess showed enough to earn the contract.

I am ok without Ohtani. Yeah, if we got him, cool. But the guy is a DH and hopefully gets back to being a plus starter.

It's not my money but if I was Cohen I would have reservations investing as much as would have to in order to get Ohtani. Rather use it to get 2 to 3 really good players.

Five catchers if you include Nido. His is a unique situation. Last year, for reasons known only to Billy Eppler and God, the Mets bought out his final ARB year and gave him a two year guaranteed contract. Then they waived him and he cleared waivers. He was just short of the five year service requirement for free agency, so he had no choice but to accept assignment to Syracuse. There he shall remain until Alvarez gets hurt or Narvaez gets moved.

Stupid comment. You have a 40 man roster to fill out. And relievers are a crap shoot from year to year so might as well stock on them.
Thank you for your kind words! Please accept my heartfelt apologies for making an innocuous comment about the Mets that offended your sensibilities. Please understand that I have been a Mets fan since day one at Al Lang Field in 1962. I have witnessed almost nothing but failure through 62 seasons of baseball. My comment should not have disturbed you, inasmuch as you don't suffer from a lack of ego. Judging by your signature, you have it in abundance!

Lets Go Mets!!

How do the Braves continue to make these steal of deals?

Just hope that Kelenic doesn't torture us thru the decade......

I believe he has a manageable contract
Kelenic is still on his pre-arb minimum contract. He doesn't become ARB eligible until 2025.

Couldn't the Mets have traded a similar level prospect to get him? We need offense.
Nope. Mariners wanted young pitching prospects. We ain't got any. At least, not any we can spare.

Mariners also wanted to dump salary. That objective we could accommodate, but not the other.

Braves really can't afford to give up pitching also. Their farm isn't in the best shape right now especially in regards to arms.

Regardless this isn't a trade the Mets are making this time around.

There is an axiom that you develop bats and buy arms. Let's see if that's the Mets long term plan.

Two key upcoming events:

1) Draft Lottery. Scheduled for 3:30 tomorrow (Tuesday). Results to be reported on mlb.network at 5:30. Mets have about a 36% chance of being selected in the Top 6. If they do, their pick is protected. If they don't, it falls 10 spots for being a luxury tax payor.

2) Rule 5 Draft. 2:00 Wednesday. Streamed live on mlb.com.
