Bichette is three years younger than Alonso and put up a higher WAR last season. His 2024 was a disaster, but he was better than Pete the three years before that. I'm not sure it's worth the salary difference, but I can see not wanting a long-term deal with Alonso.

There's trade bait now with Vientos or Baty, unless Baty can learn to play LF or 1B. I'd like to see an OF brought in and more starting pitching.

here is the riddle though- I agree "run prevention" was really a smoke screen- the real thing is exactly what you also stated, they want short term controllable contracts. It is more that they like to act like we are all idiots and Stearns smartest man in the room smirk, is what pisses fans off. That said- Pete is one of those home grown stars that you sometimes need as a fan base. Baseball- more than any other sport is what you may call a "romantic" sport. This fan base has had to live through losing so many home grown stars and our team records reflect it.
Pete was maybe the most consistent player we have had over the years, loved being a Met, played every single day.

Stearns made it personal. As for making room for the younger guys- I get that, but we have no one ready to step in for Pete and we have not addressed that hole.

And ok- we now have Semien, Bitchette, Sotto, Lindor...not too bad, but, we have done nothing for the group that lost the season for us.

I also would love to see Benge, Baty, Williams, Vientos, Mauricio, McLean, Tong, Sproat all become superstars as well but hope that as soon as they do get to their next contract, we don't play games with them...
Maybe Stearns wants short term contracts so that he can bide time until he young players are ready to be regular contributors.

That is what he is doing. And once they get near the point of not being controllable- they will be gone as well and he then rinses and repeats. Good formula to keep a farm system strong and make the playoffs 75% of the time but not win championships and not win over a tough NY fanbase.

And I will repeat this same thing forever - In baseball, more than any other sport, fans do attach themselves to their "heros" and the names on the back of the jersey is almost as important as the name on the front. Stearns has to find that model that can keep both dreams alive.

OK- now that Bitchette is here - we are looking very solid at 2B/SS/3B - Funny thing is, a couple of years ago when many were still lamenting about the Lindor contract...Quite a few of us made the statement that in a couple of years, he may look like a bargain. Well, that has certainly come true. Imagine the AAV he would command today. Bitchette is getting +$40 mil.
But, it does seem that a move off of SS is a good move for Bo. And since Semien is still an elite 2B, 3B makes sense.

The concern is still 1B. And moving Bo to 3B (he doesn't have the strongest arm- he is the type of defender that would benefit a lot with an experienced 1B. We have only a guy with 1 inning and another with 17 poorly played games at 1B...

The good thing- if all goes well, the infield production on offense can be very good and could compensate for the loss of Pete.
Bitchette can be a .300 20HR 90RBI hitter, Lindor is always a threat for a 30/30, If Semien could be a 20HR 75 RBI guy with elite glove at 2B. And lets be generous and say 1B between Polanco and Vientos could be 25HR 85 RBI.
That gives a pretty solid lineup from our infield.

Now- the concern- on offense - are we going to try to move Baty to LF? If we don't trade him, I wouldn't mind this too much and he can easily be 20 HR 70RBI. Not great but solid. CF - oh boy - good thing Taylor is elite in the field. This position in the lineup will be our number 9 hitter. And then we have super elite in RF. C - still a complete unknown.

So, we look to have a team that can now have the conversation of an offense that can be just a little above average in the league. Our defense has plus fielders at 2B/SS/CF (run prevention?) hmmmmm

Defense will be well below league average

We still need to find a number 1 or 2 SP...I do believe McLean may be that ACE in his rookie year. His stuff looks as elite as Skenes. But, you just never know. Best case, Senga is healthy and Manaea get back on track and Peterson pitches like the first half. Holmes may be solid but he is a number 4 type guy.
The trick is- can our coaching get these guys to go into the 6th inning?

And the bullpen - in a perfect world, they all stay healthy and get back to their top seasons. Very unlikely but let's hope they do.

As we are currently built- this could be a playoff team - most likely WC, not a division winner team.

Get us a starting pitcher stud and a plus fielder/hitter for the outfield. Then it is possible to actually fight for the division.

Let's see how it plays out. But the only thing I ask from leadership- stop with the complete ******** you think you can pull over on your fans. And get rid of the smirk.

Ok- here is the question-? Let’s say Mets sign Alonso and Diaz to the deals they got. Would that have stopped any other move outside of Williams?
The way it has played out- 100% no…

so, would this team be much better with Alonso, Semien, Lindor, Bitchette, and an unknown OF except for Soto and Diaz rather than Williams..,

An Alonso or Diaz signing should not have stopped any other move.

and I wish that a guy who played at this level was still posting as he would tell you all defending the negative narrative on zoetrope and Diaz what real baseball players think.

Sammon had a new article post Bichette. Basically says everything we figured already. Want a CF that can also support the corners. If it's Belli they prefer short years more money. Others could be Bader Meyers, Robert Jr, etc.

Want a pitcher either by trade or FA. Giving up the picks and intl money won't matter if the deal is right for Framber. Also looking at Peralta Bubic and Gore but trade might be long shot.

Baty will play all over. He was working out with Semien and Jett in Texas.

“This would also be a chance for the Mets to snag a key piece from the Yankees for a second consecutive offseason.”

I only care about that part if it results in more wins in the NL East and overall than who’s winning the back page of the Daily News and Post.

Here is the Pipeline list ranking the top 10 3B in the minors. Mclean #1 RHP, Tong #7 RHP, Clifford #5 1B. We did not have any LHP, C, 2B on the lists. SS and OF will be tomorrow and Thurs with their full top 100 out on Friday.

The Top 10 (ETA)
  1. Andrew Fischer, Brewers (2027)
  2. Jacob Reimer, Mets (2026)
  3. Hao-Yu Lee, Tigers (2026)
  4. Tommy White, A’s (2027)
  5. Mikey Romero, Red Sox (2026)
  6. LuJames Groover, D-backs (2026)
  7. Juan Sanchez, Blue Jays (2029)
  8. Chase Harlan, Dodgers (2028)
  9. Brock Wilken, Brewers (2026)
  10. Parks Harber, Giants (2027)
60 Grade Power
Reimer’s profile has shifted from a hit-over-power type to the other way around as he’s learned to turn on pitches more and get them in the air.

Correct on Seaver and Piazza. Beltran is expected to, but I haven't seen any quotes from him.
He said so in a recent interview he'll go in as a Met.

Bravo! Here are hints for the missing six:

1) An original Met.
2) Played for the Mets, but in the Hall as a manager.
3) Best known as a base stealer.
4) Both his father and his brother also played for the Mets.
5) A relief pitcher not named John Franco (Injustice!)
6) Prominently mentioned in a Terry Cashman nostalgia baseball song.

Beltran was a greatly under appreciated star with the Mets.

Unfortunately my most memorable event with Beltran was the Strikeout vs Wainwright!

I was at the game and it will always go down as one of the lowest Mets moments in my life !

No doubt we roll over the Tigers in the WS in 2006!

Ah yes, the Endy Chavez game. At least that's how it would be remembered if the Mets had won.

Robert Jr and hitting coach should watch every at bat from 2023 and see what clicked

264 with 38 HR

Tremendous power, very good speed and a good glove in CF if they can get it all back out of him and keep him on the field.
