McNeil with his overrated rep as a pure contact hitter. Luis Arraez he's not. And I dont know what to say about that Alvarez ab. Doesn't get any worse than that at the big league level. 3 straight pitches in the left handed batters box. Not a good time for the offense showing signs of going in the sh-tter again. The entire playoff picture for the team could shift in a hurry because tonight was the most favorable pitching matchup. Lack of clutch bites again. 0-60 when trailing after 8 is pretty unfathomable.

At the end of the night. 3 games ahead of the Giants, 4 games ahead of the Reds who lost, 4.5 games ahead of the Cards and Dbacks who also both lost. Now also 3 games behind the Padres for the 2nd Wild Card position. Were dead even with them after last Friday night.

Mr. McLean and Mr. Sproat, welcome to being a good young Mets pitcher. Enjoy great outings and no run support
In fairness McLean while he pitched very well also enjoyed a ton of run support in his first 4 starts. Last night was another story altogether.

Siri is the type of dynamic feast or famine player who just might give the offense a jolt. Unlikely, but possible.

At minimum he will provide speed and elite defense.

Alvarez is back looking like he did before he got sent down (i.e. terrible). Two bad hands, I get it, but good grief that last AB was laughable.

How can they keep pitching Manaea? Talk about desperation! Stearns rally earned his $10,000,000 this year. Those trade deadline moves were awful!! Who needs Harrison Bader when you can get Cedric Mullins?

Another 5 inning or less outing coming from Manaea. And 6 strikeouts in 3 innings against Suarez who isn't remotely a strikeout pitcher. And zero hits. Guys are really stepping up. Our hope to get in is that someone starts to beat the Giants or Reds at a rate close enough to that at which we'll be losing games.

Another epic collapse by the mets. I dont even know why I get my hopes up every year. I wish they woukd just suck from the beginning and not get me to fal for it every time

Oh, they've had plenty of suck from the beginning years, with the ballpark empty in September. Having hope is better IMO.

Giants already up 3-0 in the first. Reds up 2-0. These 2 teams can smell blood and we are of course hemorraghing. Update:Both teams won. Down to 2 and 3 game lead respectively. Look inside the numbers shows that a big reason for the fall from grace is the record away from home. Most of the teams in playoff position or contending teams have decent winning percentages on the road. The Mets are now 11 games under .500 on the road. Confounding for such a veteran team. For perspective that is the same exact road record that the Nats have. 31-42. And scary because the regular season concludes with a 6 game road trip.

I always keep the hope alive, but it would be nice to see this team not be so inconsistent. The starters have killed us for the last half of the year. We make the playoffs and it feels that Peterson is our number 1 but that is by default. He has not been good for a while now too. And then our next 3 almost seem to be the rookies. Manaea cannot be fully healthy- same with Senga. And Holmes almost needs to be an "opener" give him 3 innings and out.

Spot on assessment, but I’m not as optimistic. Hope I’m wrong

If “if” McLean continues to pitch close to his current level he MUST game 1 starter or last game of season with playoffs on the line

He didn’t have a good feel for his pitches @ Philly in that wiffle ball stadium and went 6 innings and gave up only 1 run !!!

There is lots of blame to cast, but Manaea and Senga both sucking was highly unexpected and is why I can't put too much of the blame on our GM.

I still ride Peterson game 1. He has actually deserved that over the past 2 years. But man- McLean seems to be something special

Reds win 2-1. They are now just two games back and hold the tiebreaker.

Mets have 16 games left and will need to go 10-6 I think. Can they turn it around? Of course they CAN. Anyone who questions that, hasn't been watching baseball very long. Problem is, they've given us no reason to believe that they WILL.

Who didn’t know after McNeil’s line drive double play to end first the Mets wouldn’t get another hit

Line drive to go up 5-0 with only one out to retiring 16 straight batters

I can answer that question!

YOU didn't know. If you did, you would have posted then.
