What hurt him with the Mets is they want someone who still has minor league options for the last spot on the roster for flexibility.
Dumb question, but if signed to a minor league contract but has no options, does that mean that once the parent team brings him up to the major league level, he has to stay up or go on waivers but he can start the year in the minors?

As a five year veteran, Iglesias cannot be sent to the minors without his consent. Once he is brought up, he has to stay up. Otherwise he can request his release.

Pet peeve, and it’s probably just me but again this year…

- Cyclones only in Lakewood very early against the BlueClaws (May nights, weather iffy) and very late (after LDW, kids in school, people thinking elsewhere)

- RumblePonies only in Somerset once this year. They didn’t play at all last year.

I wonder what kind of input the BlueClaws (Phillies) and Patriots (Yankees) have with their respective leagues, SAL and Eastern, when it comes to scheduling?

Binghamton I think played Somerset once last year in Somerset. Unfortunately they don't travel there as often as you'd like but I'm not sure how they come up with their scheduling besides being the 6 game weekly series now which alleviates travel for the teams. Seems like Somerset plays in Binghamton two or three times every year.

That's what I'm saying. And it seems like Hudson Valley (Yankees) comes to Lakewood multiple times every year. Would think Brooklyn is closer?

* Maybe I got my years wrong.

Yeah I'm with you I don't get it. You'd think they would have it equal all things considered.

2024 Alvarez is back not the ‘23 version

4-20 10Ks Yes I’m well aware it’s too early to be even considered early but any sign of life would be encouraging

He is a big big piece to making lineup a tall order for opposing pitchers

Mets made first cuts today. Only notable cut IMO is Sean Reid-Foley. They will likely bring him back as a non roster player if he clears waivers.
Reid-Foley has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Syracuse. So we may see him again at some point. Given that the Mets used 35 pitchers last year (excluding position players), we likely will.

Remember Tyler Naquin? He was one of the veteran bats (along with Vogey and Ruf) acquired in 2022 to help get the Mets over the top. Alas, the Mets flopped, as did Naquin, and he was out of baseball soon thereafter.

Well Naquin is back - as a pitcher! The Cleveland Guardians just signed him to a minor league contract. He always had a gun in RF. But MLB pitching is a lot more than just having a gun. We shall see.

We have Gose in our camp that was converted to SP after being a highly touted OF prospect. Good for these guys to try the opposite side.

Man that Naquin trade blew chunks. Hector Rodriguez rated in the 10-20 range in that Cincy system.

Yeah at this point hoping he can maybe become a decent backup at this point if anything.

Houck also barely making it. He was awful last year so I was surprised. My hope with him is that he seemed raw since he was also a HS QB but the tools didn't look as intriguing apparently.

I've seen them in other listings as low as 24. The common theme is that although they have quality prospects, they are all coming off injuries in recent history. They do seem to have a lot of balance when it comes to positions though.

Based on what I've read, the Mets farm system lacks the top end quality of some other teams, but is strong in terms of depth.

In the MLB Pipeline Top 30. nine guys are projected to be ready for The Show this year. Here are my thoughts on each:

# 1 - Brandon Sproat - Will be up by mid-season

# 2 - Jett Williams - Last year was pretty much a washout for him, so what's the rush? Give him the full year in AAA, with at least 50 starts in CF.

# 5 - Nolan McLean - This would surprise me - a lot.

# 7 - Luisangel Acuna - Probably won't go north with the big club, but will be here at some point.

#10 - Ronny Mauricio - See Luisangel Acuna.

#11 - Drew Gilbert - I see no reason to believe he'll make this team in 2025. TBH I am not sure he'll make this team ever.

#16 - Blade Tidwell - See Nolan McLean.

#24 - Jonathan Pintaro - Given how teams churn through optionable relievers nowadays, I suspect we'll see him at some point. Then he'll pitch three innings in long relief, and be gone the next day

#26 - Dom Hamel - If he's not ready this year he probably never will be. May benefit from a move to the pen.

I think we'll see Gilbert this year. Marte will be hurt or gone at some point.

Sproat after ASB.

Tidwell will be up at some point but will depend on SP or RP.

McLean has pitching helium but yeah he only converted second half last year so I think 2026.

Hamel should be checked into pen soon and maybe he gets a shot. Vasil too if he comes back from Rays since they took him in Rule 5.

System depth is really good right now and next year we'll be higher even with a lot of graduations. Franchise is building.

If Marte goes down and/or out, I doubt the Mets would replace him with another OF. Even without Marte they would have six outfielders if you include McNeil.

That is, unless Gilbert is just tearing it up in AAA, which I have no reason to believe he will.

Yes a lot depends on roster at a specific time but Gilbert would be natural replacement for Marte. Regardless if it's a straight one for one I think we'll see him at some point.

BTW- the way Senga, Peterson and Holmes have looked so far, if Manaea isn’t out too long- our SP could be pretty good this year.
With our lineup- this may be a heck of a fun year.
That goes along with maybe seeing a couple of the youngsters make their way up.

I hope you're right. But the Eppler mid-season trades didn't net what we'd hoped. Maybe something can still come of them, and Stearns has had only one draft. We have a good set of prospects, but I'm not sure I'd say really good, if there's a difference. I like the management, though, and the long term outlook for the system.

I also like the decision-making at the major league level, most notably the way in which the front office finds solutions. Front offices that pursue solutions that are touted in the sports pages and on the blogs never succeed. And that isn't how Stearns runs things.

The International outside of Japan has been aggressive and for most teams, that pays off too.
BTW- I can’t remember any Mid season Eppler trades that we received good prospects. Not knocking but I just don’t..,

Btw- not posting to troll but didn’t want to make a thread to ask this of @Tango Two
Why isn’t there a Yankee spring season thread.

And guys- don’t turn it into a troll- I am seriously asking. We usually seem similar threads at the same time for all of the professional leagues.
