Stop. They come into our thread to talk trash then people are going to respond. I personally ignore because they have no clue what they're talking about but hard to fault others. If they go into the dead zone it's another story.

Anyways great game from Canning! Stearns and Hefner have done some job with the pitching. Great to see Alonso get the power going again after a brief lull. That second HR was a friggin shot!! It's really good to have the series W against the Dodgers because it just might come into play this year.

Very rare bad game from Brooklyn hitters yesterday but Santucci pitched well.

It's funny, I still don't feel like anyone but Lindor has been consistent on offense. And he is on another MVP type year with most likely being right in that 100 runs and rbi, potential 30/30 club and great defense. But then you look at someone like Soto- who by all accounts, is having a bad year- but he is on pace for over 100 runs- 80 rbi 30HR and then you have Pete- 36 HR and 130+ RBI pace.

With the pitching we have gotten, if those 3 even get more consistent and we get good hitting out of at least 2 more guys- this could just end up a crazy year.
Though, it feels like one of those years we could go on a 15 game winning streak and the Phillies will go on a 18 game streak...

If I was more confident with the overall bullpen, I wouldn’t be that concerned.

But I’m a worry wort. 🤷‍♂️
Mr. Stearns will be quite active at the trade deadline in his quest for bullpen arms!

The BP has pitched 230 innings so far and have a 2.87 ERA...I am not sure if they can keep it up but being more than 1/3 of the way through, there is a chance that they are what they are this year. I feel pretty good about the BP.

What scares me a little is the starters. Very hard to have an entire staff stay this good. And as good as Hefner is- I always worry about the number of walks we give up.

Lindor has a broken pinky toe but he intends to play through it and listed as day to day.

Unless there is an injury, I'm the reverse.

More worried about our end game than the front.

Conforto picked a great time to finally get a hit. Yay for him, but he still sucks.
Gut punch loss.

Will beg for another Pete extension
You can beg, but I strongly suspect it won't happen.

We all know the Scott Boras playbook. He believes that the most valuable asset his clients possess is their right to free agency. If you want him to give up that right, he will make you overpay for the privilege. I doubt that Steve Cohen is in the mood for overpaying.

Alonso will opt out and become a free agent, with Cohen's blessing. Cohen will let Boras establish the market, and will then decide how deeply he wants to dive in. Makes more sense, at least to me, than bidding against yourself.

It really wasn't wild at all. Baty muffed the play. That's all.
The play was kinda weird. Garrett, sensing a rundown, properly went to provide backup coverage of home. When Baty made his bad throw, Alvarez tried to do a first baseman's scoop, which is hard to do with a catcher's mitt. The ball popped into the air and Garrett alertly caught it. He lunged to make the tag, and might have been able to do so, except that Alvarez was in his path and they collided.

The video clip was probably pretty funny to non-Mets fans.

But as you say, this is ultimately on Baty. He botched a play that would would expect a little leaguer to make, and it may have cost the game.

Yeah, Baty pulled a Fredo there. Send him off to Vegas to run a Casino! 😜 For those that don't speak emoji, that is a joke. With Vientos and Lindor gimpy, we need to keep Fredo in NYC.

EDIT- The Athletic has a much better and measured headline today (hope Lindor can "toe" the line):

Mets takeaways: Bad defense leads to split with Dodgers, Francisco Lindor’s toe

Well, back in ancient times when I played Little League, I would have made that play. That is my frame of reference.
My Al Bundy moment in sports- in the "minor league" of LL (9-10 years old)-I pitched an immaculate inning. It will be the first item of accomplishment in my obit. 😉
The following year or two later, I gave up 9 runs and 4 home runs in one inning. Either the batters got better, or my pitching got worse.
