Jose Butto pitched a rehab inning in a FCL Rookie League game today. (Yeah, today, apparently they play in the morning.) No runs, one hit, one K.

Mets will now evaluate him and determine if he can be immediately reactivated, or whether he needs one or two more rehabs. It is very possible that both he and Raley will be activated on Friday.

The reason the Mets sent Butto down to Rookie League is that it's the only one which plays through the All-Star break.

I, of course, disagree with that.

It is so interesting how things work out in the minors. We all of a sudden have studs pitching when we had almost no one a couple of years ago.

Polar Pete with a 3 run jack. Wonder if Diaz gets the save opportunity or does Roberts go with someone like Hader or Suarez? Guess it could be some combination.

Gleyber Torres is an All Star? Is that the same player run out of this town less than a year ago. If only I could pullup those baseball geniuses analysis that convinced management he needed to go.

Pete Alonso has proposed a rule change. Allow fighting. Specifically:
  • A hitter who has been thrown at (or perceives that he has been thrown at) would be allowed to charge the mound.
  • Hockey rules would apply - the fight is mano a mano, no third man in allowed.
  • The pitcher can opt out of the fight by taking a knee. Thus exposing himself to public humiliation.
  • And my favorite part - the winner of the fight (not sure how this is determined) gets to stay in the game. The loser is ejected.
I think we can safely say that this idea will not be on the table at the next union negotiations.

Get rid of the DH.

Baseball Prospectus did its midsummer prospect rerank, and the Mets were treated very nicely. Five in Top 60.

17 - Jett Williams
20 - Jonah Tong
32 - Carson Benge
34 - Nolan McLean
52 - Jacob Reimer

I am unfamiliar with Baseball Prospectus. But then, they are likely unfamiliar with me as well.

I will attempt to get around to posting this minor league report link daily for the rest of the season.

Mets long time team physician Dr David Altchek has died at 68. Performed hundreds of TJ surgeries.

As expected, Mets activate Brooks Raley, who will become their 38th pitcher used this season. Lovelady DFA'd again.

More interesting to me is the transaction that was NOT made - Alvarez. He remains in Syracuse until further notice. I guess eight passed balls in 20 games will do that to you.

While it's tempting to bring him back up because the two guys we have can't hit a lick, I'd bet that they want Alvarez to have sustained success at the plate and with it bring a better approach back to the major leagues.

Did you see there is a poster named Cioffineverrana43. For a bit, thought it was you.

At some point last year, seemed we had 2 solid catches who would be battling it out for who is the best all around catcher. Now. . . ., not sure either one has all of offensive and defensive tools, but Torrens is wicked good on throwing out base stealers.

Why even have manaea up if he can only go 4 innings?
whoever Alex Carrillo is I never want to see him in a Mets uniform ever again.
bullpen is a mess and starting a guy who can’t go beyond 65 pitches is a bad recipe

More concerned about lack of offense.

Yeah, because we’re loaded with other starters who can do better right now.

Had a 4 day break you put in Alex Carrillo. Just give up the game.

I am ok with bringing in Carrillo for the fifth, although I would have preferred Devenski. Mendoza had five innings to cover, and does not have five frontline relievers with which to cover them

I do have a problem with Mendy bringing him back for the sixth.

Anytime Keith and Wright are together I remember the booth talking about how David would be on 86 team , Ron chimed in and said heck yeah David could play with us

Keith pauses and looks at Wright and says yeah he could’ve played on the 86 team …BUT you weren’t batting 3rd and Keith giggles

Team is playing very bad so far after the break. And Alonso must have one of the worst arms in the majors. When has Lindor last had a hit?
