If anyone cares what ESPN thinks- they gave the trade with Baltimore, a B grade, stating:

"For what it's worth, Mullins' numbers against righty pitching this season are brutal. In that regard, he has the same odd platoon splits as McNeil.
The key to this deal might have been the Mets' evaluation of where Mullins is at as a defender."

They gave the Orioles' end of the deal a C+.

Mets deal for Helsey got a B-: "Despite that velocity, that pitch has been hit hard in 2025, as Helsley has allowed a .406 average against it -- the reason he hasn't been quite as dominant as in his All-Star seasons of 2022 and 2024."

Mets deals for Rogers and Soto each got a C+

FWIW- Phillies deal for Bader got a B-. Their deal for Duran got an A.

Well it looks like the Mets did pretty good, but how the hell Seattle got so much without giving up a lot is crazy. Is this just another example of teams always trying to rape the Mets and Yankees? Jerry Dipoto pulled off a amazing trade deadline. He's a former NY Mets player and played his HS ball at Toms River North HS, I remember watching him pitch in The Shore Conference Tournaments and a State game. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45860575/mlb-trade-deadline-2025-reaction-biggest-winners-losers

Sproat another great start. He's back to the dominant SP we thought he might be. A debut from him and/or McLean might be in the cards in the next 2 months.

Voit our first rounder from this year made his professional debut.

I removed Nunez and Gomez who were traded and replaced with Gordon and Orellana who were already on my HM section.

The Athletic gave the Mets trades generally high marks, and put the in the "winners" column. "David Stearns scooped up two of the best rental relievers, Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers, without doing much damage to his farm system."

Phillies also in the winners column.

Paywalled, so will not link.

Zak, as you are our resident expert in Mets minor leaguers... Of the 10 prospects traded, which you do think we will be most likely to miss, five years from now?

Feel free to respond on a scale of 1-10, where 1 equals Jarred Kelenic and 10 equals Pete Crow-Armstrong.

I am not Zak but have been thinking about this- I actually think Butto is the guy who may have a pretty decent career. I think if he gets the chance to start, he may have a chance to be a long time 3/4 type starter. Didn't see much promise in Tidwell but maybe he has a decent middle relief type career. The offensive players, Gilbert, may find himself a career but I don't see him a long time starter for anyone. I will leave some of the young kids to Zak but I just don't think we gave up anyone above a 5 on your scale.

Some of them work out, and some of them don't.

Who was that guy who went to Seattle that many fans cried over and ultimately flamed out-Kelenic? I see he was just recalled from Braves Triple A to replace Acuna.

And then there is Wilmer Flores, who has done well for San Francisco.

Flores has had quite the career- loved him while he was here but really didn't see him as a guy who be around almost 15 years and nearly 200 HR's- go figure

Kelenic has bounced back up and down. Recently called up when Acuna went on the IR due to a strained achilles.

Aracena and Baez clearly have the most helium. I don't want to put a number on it because development of these prospects depends on so much.

Baez probably went to one of the best organizations to develop so it was a good landing spot for him. He supposedly has a great work ethic and attitude so once the knee injury is a year behind him I can see him taking off. He has excellent bat metrics like EV and HH which is normally a good sign especially at that age. He's going to end up at 3B.

Aracena going to Baltimore might stunt him a like bit because the Orioles haven't developed much pitching the last few years. I think he has the natural talent to keep delivering so at worst I see him as a good to great late inning RP down the line or at best a mid rotation SP. He has some really great pitchability to work with

Gilbert can be a solid 3rd/4th OF but I don't expect much more. Tidwell maybe a 5 but I'm not sure he's going to clean up his control issues. If he does then maybe a 3 at best.

I can see Nunez having a decent career in middle relief. Dohm a 4 or 5 if everything goes right.

Gomez with the big FB but he's already older and struggling at A. He has to learn how to control it and is that going to happen at that point?

Ellisalt and Marsh hey you never know but doubt they make it.

So- for all of our fans on here- how do you all think we did- We did ship out more prospects then you can count but we do not know if any of them will be significant MLB players and we did not touch our blue chips or guys at the MLB level that have contributed in a positive way except Butto.
In return- we got 3 rental RP pitchers and a rental CF.
The RP's- one of them is a legit option if Diaz is not back next year- so we have 2 elite closers on the roster. At CF - hmmmm, I am not sure but he is at least a legit MLB CF. Not elite in anything but good in almost everything.

Stearns kept our future intact- did not bring in any big contracts and made our team better.

Thoughts?

FWIW, neither Mullins nor Helsley are listed on the active roster at this time. They may not have arrived yet. Traded players have 72 hours to report.

If that's accurate, Mets are short one pitcher as they have already optioned Devenski. They will need to drop a position player when Mullins arrives.

The whole "rental" thing to me is overblown. I see it as a showcase. If they can handle the pressure of a pennant race and NYC, there's no way Stearns lets them walk. He has the resources so I don't think it's a gamble at all. Teams like the Yankees bragging they traded for players they control for 2 years is silly. If they can't handle NYC and a pennant race your stuck with their salary or dump them for a loss.

Always depends with "control" - I think they would have loved to have 2 years control of Soto but agree- as a rental- it is as much on them as it is on us. And we didn't give a ton for them

Guys walk all the time despite a team's best efforts. The bottom line is that you can't assume you will be back in the same position to contend each year. Guys get hurt and take steps back. You have to go for it when you can. In that sense, the "rental" thing is overblown.

Not a Mets fan, but I think @yesrutgers01 summed up everything very well. Mets did a good job at the deadline, addressed key needs and didn't give up a ton. As an aside, the asking prices for SPs seemed to be pretty ridiculous this year with several of them staying put, even in walk years. Not that the Mets needed one desperately.

I support the moves made. Bolstered areas of need. With that said; it will only matter in the big picture if the so-called Fab Four start getting it done. The big picture being a deep post-season run with hopefully a title. Because that should be the only goal. I know its what Cohen is putting his name on those big checks for.

Oh boy he's a character that's for sure.
That's one way of putting it. I was thinking more a clown. Did they sign him from the Savannah Bananas by any chance. I know you'd better be almost immaculate if you carry on that way after every K. Cause when the hitter gets you they're gonna let you hear about it.
