My thoughts on the Mets starting rotation for the rest of the "regular" season. #1 Peterson, #2 McLean, #3 Holmes, #4 {Manaea/Senga 4 innings each} #5 Tong. Megill to long relief and we need to settle on the 7th and 8th inning guys.
If Peterson is our 1, we have no chance. McLean needs to be the ace and is well on his way.

They should bring up the other rook, Sproat. The experienced starting staff is inconsistent and pretty bad. Can’t rely on them. Maybe these kids can provide a spark. They aren’t going anywhere without a change in this staff.

Sproat is making a strong case for himself tonight. 7 innings, 91 pitches, 0 runs, 3 hits, 2 BB, 9 K.

Our veteran starting pitching is trash right now and that sweep over the Phillies is all but forgotten and moot. And as I sit back and observe, I realize now that its all Cedric Mullins fault.

We really need to address the pitching in the offseason. This is getting ridiculous.

Manaea has more years.
Senga has two more years.
Holmes has two more years.
Diaz likely has two more years.
Montas has one year which is already dead money.

I think the only way Stearns can address the pitching is: "Mr. Cohen, how much guaranteed salary are you willing to eat?"

On a bit more fun note- Lindor and Soto are both obviously going for 30/30
Good chance Soto ends up with almost 120 runs, 40+ HR, 100rbi, 30 SB

I’m not sure but I think when we signed him, we all would have said those numbers were as advertised or maybe better

Good win (ain't they all?) but unsustainable. Got to get back to winning 4-2.
Yeah.

Digging a little deeper, the offense has been way too inconsistent. There have been long stretches of not hitting, followed by long stretches of a ton of hitting, and recently significant stretches during which both of those things happen and not much in between. The offense has much too often been either white hot or icy cold.

And the pitching has fallen off a cliff with the fall gaining velocity. It's gotten so bad that it spread to Peterson. I'm not sure that relying on more and more new guys from the minors is sustainable. At some point, enough of the veterans on the staff have to get their acts together or this will end more quickly than we all want.

I feel Peterson just had a bad game and will be back to himself. My gut tells me that Manaea and Senga are still not close to 100%. Holmes has really hit an inning wall. Bring up Sproat and see if he can at least give us a couple of starts- for nothing else, but to bring a bit more of a break to those 3.

I don't know why we felt we needed to get Mullins- he does'nt really bring much to us and I would rather see McNeil in CF and Baty/Vientos/Marte playing then have him in the lineup. Helsley has been a disaster. Soto (pitcher) has been typical Soto and Rogers has been good.

Stearns offseason and Trade Deadline, has not been great. Soto, the hitter was a no brainer if you have money so he dosent really get credit for that.

On Mullins, it made sense as an improvement to the CF play. Mullins is an excellent outfielder like Taylor (though not quite as good) and for his career (as opposed to more limited numbers this year) his offensive splits against righties is much better than Taylor's.

The problem is that he hasn't hit much so far for the Mets. If from here out he simply performs against righties as he has for his career, it'd a be a nice upgrade to the CF position and give us flexibility late in games.

A lot of you said earlier in the season (May?) the starting pitching wouldn’t hold up over the course of 162 games.

My concern was middle and closing relief.

Looks like you were right.☹️
