Followed by 4 at the Phillies. Sweep them both, and Mets are in the driver's seat, possibly in first place if the Marlins can do to the Phils what they did to the Mets.

Rare bad night for all our pitching prospects going yesterday. Will Watson not a great start at AA but no concern there. Reimer took 1 AB and then left the game but no indication yet of why he was taken out. Hopefully nothing too bad with the playoffs coming up for Bing.

A double sweep on the road seems like a tall order.

The Reds aren't even the first team behind us in the WC race right now. The Giants jumped them by a game and are 4 back of us. Cincy is 5. Arizona and St. Louis lurking now at 5.5.

We remain 1 behind SD for WC#2. 5 behind Cubs for WC#1.

Not sure what you mean by real deal but he's had an amazing year and all the defensive reports come up positive. He's clearly a top 100 guy in the minors at this point. Callis at Pipeline thinks he has a chance to be our #1 prospect for 2027. We are going to have a real logjam of position player prospects in the IF and OF starting next year which is great to see and will work itself out. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of these guys getting dealt in the off-season should the need arise for a more established player.

Callis on Ewing.

"The New York system has seen a number of exciting breakouts in 2025, and Ewing’s was perhaps the largest in terms of individual growth. Using his plus speed, the 21-year-old has become an impressive defender in center field and stolen 68 bags in 114 games across Single-A, High-A and Double-A this season. His ability to make consistent contact has similarly fueled his rise, even if his power is unlikely to be better than average. With Carson Benge and Jett Williams already at Triple-A and pushing for the Majors, Ewing should get more time to marinate at the upper levels in 2026 and make a strong case to be No. 1 for ‘27."

My weekend is super hectic and I'm not going to see one inning of the Reds series. Please just get 2 of 3.

6 man rotation starting tonight of Peterson, Tong, Sproat, Manaea, McClean, Holmes. No Senga.

Thanks for the info - Question for you as you seem to be very up on the minors and player development. While we have had a couple of players come up very young, Alvarez...why is it now the norm to be 23/24 even for players that did not go to college? Seemed like there are other organizations that seem to have quite a few 20 and under kids come up

I don't think it's as many as you believe. There's very few players overall that come up super early age wise. Some organizations are fine bringing up younger guys if they think they can help and don't mind them developing more in the majors. We had the 3 or 4 big ones last year but this year not many super young guys broke in off the top of my head. Overall it really comes down to each individual player and how the org views them though. Did their numbers dictate a call up etc. It's better to go on a case by case basis.

In quite a bit of a surprise Baseball America ranked Elian Pena the #25 prospect in the DSL this year. That is not anything you would expect after the bonus and his stats after that 0fer start.

I would think they hope Senga comes back strong for the playoffs. For now, they just need to make it there.

And man, if Alvarez comes back strong this lineup becomes insane when you have potential 8/9 hitters like McNeal/Baty etc.

BTW- McNeil may be the unsung hero this year. He has been clutch hitting but surprisingly, very f-ing good in the field no matter where they put him.

We are hitting but pitching will come down to the 3 young guns. The post season is a huge question mark.

A whole season will depend on what we get from 3 starters here less than a month. Who would have thought that with this payroll..

All joking aside, Alonso missing the ball was probably the best possible outcome. If he deflects it, it's game over. If he fields it cleanly, it's highly questionable he can make the throw.

If he does field it he probably makes an errant throw and 2 runs score and its game over.

Need to see a strong 2nd outing from Tong. Reds get the chance to study his first game so this is always the test on a rookie pitcher. Would love to see the win as each win is that much closer to locking the playoffs up.

BTW - this offense has been crazy for the past 2 weeks. And this is without Alvarez.

Looking at the past 15 days- the team stats are almost what would be a full year for a player with 510 AB's- 110 runs 28 doubles 3 triples 27 HR 109 RBI 27 SB and a .316 .400 .941 walks and K's are impressive too 62 BB and 99K

The fact that we are not winning a ton, shows how bad the pitching has been. But this offense is so fun to watch

Love that they are putting up big offensive numbers without huge HR totals.

The offense has been clicking for more than two weeks. Going back to a calendar month they lead all of baseball in all things offense.
