First, I don’t know how you can have watched this series and believe something systemic guaranteed that the Rangers are incapable of winning it, when every game but one was a one goal game.

Second, I don’t know how you can feel so strongly about our forwards not handling pressure, yet somehow argued that our defensemen are “excellent puck movers” further back in the thread.

We absolutely have too many players at both forward and defense who aren’t suited for playoff hockey. But the idea that Florida’s system makes them unbeatable by the Rangers is ridiculous. They almost did it here even with a flawed performance and at least one key injury.
I agree with you here, it’s not the system and it wasn’t Gallant’s system either.

It’s our players inability to play suffocating playoff hockey, we can’t do it.

What the Panthers, Lightning and Devil's do to Panarin, Mika,, Kreider, Fox and Bread, we can’t do to their best players

I don’t blame what they are doing to Panarin as much, because at least what they do to Panarin gives the rest of his line extra space and they are taking advantage of it.

The Mika/Kreider combination is the killer, because their line does nothing to the point they are becoming a negative defensively as well. Six more years with Mika on an NMC at $8.5 million.

Kreider they could unload tomorrow (they won’t) because another team would use what he can do well but not rely on him to do things he can’t.

Then there’s Trouba, and Lindgren is up for a new contract…

So what are your thoughts and what do you think will happen in game 6

The normal thought is that a team will come out fighting in a game that can end their season, but game 7 last year showed we can’t count on that with the Rangers.

I am confident guys like Trochek, Laf and Goodrow won’t go down without a fight.

I know my bottom six would be:

Wennberg-Cuylle-kakko
Goodrow-Brodzinski-Wheeler

Those lines are unlikely to score, but at least they will work hard and do a respectable job defensively. None of the other combinations they are rolling score OR play defense that well.

By the way, what are people seeing that I am not that keeps Roslovic out of the healthy scratch rotation?

As frustrated as I am by this team, the worst part is knowing that our flawed team is still keeping things extremely close with Florida and if we had a healthy Fox we probably already ended this series.
Reality is if gustafsson wasnt an idiot and just laughed at mikkola instead of punching him, rangees get a 5 on 3, take a 2-0 lead and go onto win.

I put in wheeler for rempe and brodzinski for roslovic

Kreider-mika-chytil
Panarin-trocheck-laff
Cuylle-wennberg-kakko
Brodzinski-goodrow-wheeler

Nah, these refs would have called it on one of the other two guys if Gustafson stayed out of it. They didn’t want a two man advantage.

Florida’s strategy is smart. Always take the extra shot, because the refs aren’t going to call it.

It’s like a few years ago in the NFL where a few teams went far by (before they revised the rules again), committing defensive holding on virtually every play, knowing they would only call it so much.

Truba should have laid a Panther out in the neutral zone.
I’m sick of watching them take the long pass out of their end only to turn around with no Rangers in the picture.
Stop sagging and time one up Trubes.

That was a horseshit call. There was nothing over the top there and it's never called as matching penalties because it rewards / incentivizes running the goalie. I was livid.

I agree, super soft call but you cant even give the refs an opportunity to make the call. Series changing mistake

Yes that call was pretty soft, but refs will do almost anything they can to not give a 5-3 in the playoffs. Gus has to know better there.

Mr. Optimistic here…lol

Reading how we need to employ an aggressive forecheck.
Our attempt, The NY Rangers version of an aggressive forecheck will result in a horribly lopsided score against us.
We won the Presidents Trophy playing a saggy D style with great goalies and special teams.
We have no clue how to sustain an aggressive offensive attack for 3 periods…none.

Our MO is we’re a very opportunistic team with great a great PP…. Period.

By the way, 60 year die hard Blueshirts fan here, I’d love to be wrong.

I would tell Mika to stop taking all of those bad angle onetimers to the short side on the power play and get back to shooting about 70% as hard to Kreider’s side where can get a chance at a tip in or rebound.

Goes with more pucks on net concept, unfortunately they create blocks and missed net rap arounds for easy clears and even rushes.
We also need Fox to get to the middle instead of being forced wide right in no man’s land.

There was a good point made the other night (I think, believe it or not, on ESPN) that the Rangers make it easy on the opponent to block shots from the point because no one is nervous about going all out to get in front of a shot from Fox, Panarin, or Gus like they are some other power plays in the league.

Those soft shots from the point hoping to get a tip from Kreider are mostly not getting through.

Doesn’t it seem that Goodrow and Cuylle should be flipped?
I kinda like goody on the 3rd line. Personally if they wanted to try someone new at 1st line RW id have goody there before wennberg

They should try Kreids at center, he’s horrid against the boards and winning puck battles

Good thing the Rangers worked on reversing the puck and constantly going behind their net…lol
Truba should sit
It’s weird. Trouba’s defense has always been questionable, but plays like that (and the OT goal in Game 4) have him ignoring things about playing defense that he would have learned as a little kid playing hockey.

Terrible defense by Gustafson on that goal - just did a nice job showing it on the studio show.

And another terrible giveaway by the Rangers for a breakaway, stoned by IS, as usual. And it should've been a slashing call on the Rangers. Rangers have looked better this period though.

Panthers pressure is just so suffocating and their defense has been impenetrable. Last chance.

Well, FL dominates the first 5 minutes, although all at takes is one moment to tie it up.

And another defensive lapse by the Rangers. Down 2-0 to FL is like being down 10-0.

Men among boys.
Except for a handful (not enough)
Rangers are softer than a babies *** and a cake walk to play against when you aren’t completely out skilled.

Very similar to the domination the Devils exhibited last year against us… no answer
