Phillies pick up former Braves and A's prospect Pache in a decent move, gave up a reliever. He cant hit but is a plus defender.

Good start for the bats. But man losing a game after going up on deGrom 5-0 hurts.

Nola did not look great - I wonder of the contract issue was on his mind.

Most likely that is hurting Nola. I will never forget him taking '09 off. At least it was not a National League game.

Nola has always had issues with men on base and according to articles out today it was worse yesterday with the new pitch clock rules.

I'm not sure if he's coming back anyway, IMO if the Phillies wanted him back, the extension would have been signed already.

Well he's got a lot of miles on him. But anyone as good as him will cost just as much and might not be available anyway. Plus he gave the Phils a discount on the last contract so he's probably looking for top dolla dolla bills. Phils might be waiting to see if he caves for another discount.

I think the Phils get it done just because the fans will be pissed if they let him walk.

Also, all that Hoskins money comes off the books. Nola's $16M plus Hosikns $12M should get it done.

The other thing is maybe they hit it out of the park later in the year with the two rookie pitchers and feel they don't need him unless it's at a discount due to the mileage.

I think they get it done. Eventually.

Rough start. Worrisome as your two top starters got rocked.
I think your offense is still going to be very good but you have to hope the pitching can hold up.

Agree. Both have complained about the pitch clock. I have to expect they'll come back though.

They got a great start from Falter last night. First time this season the Phils have held the opposing team to single digits!

Where Harper and Hoskins are most missed is in the area of drawing walks, getting only 8 so far,29th in the majors.
There's also the matter of loss of power, hitting only 1,also 29th.
It's too early to tell about BABIP.Is it a product of shift elimination or have they've been lucky as they're 2nd there.

Hoskins makes up for the walks by misplaying 1B once a game.

When Bryce returns,I'd like to see right left all the way through the lineup by putting Stott 2nd,Bohm 3rd,then Harper,JT,Schwarber,Nick,Marsh and Sosa/Harrison.

Darick Hall has a torn ligament in his thumb, and so my guess is that Bohm will go to first and Sosa/Harrison will play third. That's going to sacrifice offense, which is why the Phillies were hoping Hall could do the job.

When Harper is ready he'll hit 3rd. They want him up in the 1st inning.

The only thing I'd change from now is to drop Casty lower.

BTW, did ya'll see Hall is having Thumb surgery - out until May(?)

Yes, I said that a couple of hours ago. Perhaps you have me on ignore. Hall needs surgery and will be out "a few months."

It's madness to project where Harper will hit until we see who's available when he comes back and how well everyone else is hitting.

Edit: according to the Inquirer, Kody Clemens (with a .143 major league career batting average) will play first against righties, with Bohn at first and Sosa at third against lefties. No one likes having Bohm switch back and forth, but no one can think of a better option right now with the present roster.

That was a good time for Stott to get RBI No.1.
He still hasn't scored a run though.
49 more games to beat Joe D.
Turner is on pace to become the first player to get 200 hits and strikeout 200 times in the same season.

The downside of today is getting Lodolo again on Thursday after Alcantara on extra rest on Monday.

The Phillies have rarely been a fast starting team, the two exceptions being 1993 and 1964.
Last year, they started 4-8 as well.
In a division title year,2007,they started 3-10.
In 1977,they started 1-6 and went on to win 101 games.
In 1982,they started 3-11 and had the division lead in mid-September before finishing 2nd.
Still, they don't want to be the '65 Pirates, who started 9-24,then rallied to go 81-48 to finish 7 games back.

Harper going to play some 1b

This makes a lot of sense. There are so many outfielders who also played first or who, like Mickey Mantle, became first basemen when they could no longer play the outfield. Harper is 6'3" and so he has the height to be a first baseman.

What odds could you have gotten at the beginning of the station were you to state that on April 16th Brandon Marsh would be second in OPS in all of MLB?
Also, three of his teammates are on pace to have 210 or more hits in a season, something at first glance appears to be unprecedented.
Stott now only 40 games away from tying Joe D.
