I read that article too. No thanks. We’d be giving up too much plus losing a starting pitcher ….. I’d rather see us get a corner OF (Bellinger or Soto) and a starter. It seems that Dombrowksi is set on getting a starter and a right handed bat.

Soto and Bellinger both do. I’d take either. I’d prefer Bellinger as he’s having a great year, he plays anywhere in the OF or 1st base and he’d prolly require less in return.

Also we could probably snag a nice starter (stroman for example)
You nailed it.

My only fear is Dombrowski loves to trade away the future for wins while he's employed. I'd hate to see any of the kids go, Bohm, Painter, the other kid pitcher, the CF, or God forbid, Stott, just for a 32 year old expensive player.

I'm OK with McGarry and some the other kids being traded out. But to me Bohm and Stott are part of the core of the team. Stott is playing GREAT. And someone has to be on a cheap contract or they'll be paying $400M a year and have no prospects.

Yes I agree. We finally have an established a farm system. We need to maintain it.

I understand your concern, but I think it's very unlikely that either Bohm or Stott gets traded. The Phillies have no one to replace them for a playoff push this year, and the whole point of getting expensive veterans is to get the team to the playoffs or further.

Zach Eflin pitched 7 innings of two-hit shutout ball tonight, and Tampa Bay beat Baltimore, its competitor for top spot in the AL East., 3-0. His WHIP is 0.99 and his ERA is 3.36. You can't keep everyone, and a $40 million, three year contract (what he got from the Rays) is a lot of money, but he'd sure look good in a Phillies uniform right now.

The next 7 games are vital in garnering the No.1 wild card as 33 of the next 49 games are at home before the three game finale at Citi Field.

Yes, being at home should make a big difference. The Phillies are 28-20 at home and 27-27 on the road as of today. Of the Phillies' remaining games, 33 will be at home, as you say, and 26 on the road.

I have the Phils winning 20 or 21 of the next 31 games - including last night’s win - through the end of August. 75-58/76-57 with a month to go would almost certainly make us a lock for a WC spot. It looks like a .500 or so Sept. 89-91 wins overall.

That sounds about right. I’m hoping we snag a starter and an OF. If I could pick it would be Eduardo Rodriguez from the Tigers and Bellinger from the Cubbies. I could care less about a right handed bat at this point. Keeping prospects would be a huge concern for me in any other trades. These two are feasible and with their contracts, (Belli on a 1 year and Rodriguez having the opt out clause) we could get them for reasonable prospects.

There's a new name atop the leaderboard in MLB pitching wins.
Bohm went boom in his new No.2 spot.

I am surprised to see no comments on the two deals the Phils made today: Tigers' pitcher Michael Lorenzen (an All-Star this year, but not that great for his career) for #5 prospect infielder Hao-Yu-Lee, and Pirates infielder Rodolfo Castro for Bailey Falter. The first deal sounds good because Lorenzen has been above-average this year; but I'm not sure I see the point of getting another infielder. OTOH, Bailey Falter probably needs a change of scenery.

We all figured it would be these types of trades (nothing to write home about).

I'm disappointed they didn't get a impact bat for LF since no one is hitting except Stott and Bohm.

I will predict however, that once these guys all come out of their slumps at the same time they are going to be a powerful team. All slumps end, except maybe for Casty. (Oops. Just saw the HR)

Yea the team has the potential to be great, they’re just unfortunately not hitting well.

The lineup we saw last night I think will be the one we see going forward. 1-8 are certainly formidable if they can all get going. Hence the thought that we really don’t need another bat. We did however need more pitching, and getting Lorenzen certainly helps. Once we go back to a 5-man and then potentially a 4-man in the playoffs, flexibility with Suarez, Nola, Sanchez, Lorenzen to come out of the bullpen could be huge.

I like Lorenzen's flexibility with him being used to pitching out of the bullpen in the past. Also good to get Nola, Wheeler, etc some extra rest down the stretch. Could be huge in the playoffs. Castro is an upgrade over Harrison in a super utility right hand hitting infield role.

Would have loved to get an extra bat, but I sort of agree with Dombroski's way of thinking that the ones we have just need to wake up.

Segura will be released by Cleveland. Do the Phils bring him back? Would only cost the vet minimum.

Turner has been dropped to batting 8th.
Maybe this will work.
Schmidt batted 8th in his rookie year.

The Zen master could also be used as an emergency outfielder and pinch hitter,as he hit 4HR in a BC(Before Covid) year.
Opponents empty all of their available lefthanders in the pen, emphasizing the absence of Rhys.
Could Turner be having an undisclosed or more likely an undiagnosed physical problem?
Hopefully Bryce's speeded up return is the cause of his power outage.Still,Johnny Callison suddenly lost his power swing in 1966,never regaining it.
Beat Jordan Lyles.

To me, his issues have appeared to be mental in nature. I wondered if something might be going down in his personal life.

After a brutal loss to KC last night, what an entertaining win tonight! The debate in Philly going into the weekend - standing O for Turner or not? The answer has been yes and what a way for Trea to respond! A big 3-run HR to give the Phils the lead and then a RBI double for some cushion. Need to keep Trea going and win the series tomorrow afternoon.
