Amazing that Japan has produced the best player in America's Pastime. Must be in that radioactive water we gave them back in the 40's. His talent is off the charts, but I don't want him for the haul the Angles would demand for him.

He’s great. Too bad he plays for the angels. He needs to wise up and play for a winning franchise with a fan base that cares

Joey Gallo hit .157 playing for the playoffs making Yankees last yr. Was that impressive?
If you are the best player on the team, make it happen. Ohtani owes the Angels a lot of performance. He first three seasons were injury plagued and below expectations. 2021 and 2023 are MVP years, but in 2022 his batting was meh and only pitched 166 innings. Not a winning player.

Not a winning player?!?!?! Shocking you aren’t an MLB GM with that acumen.

Maybe the dumbest statement I have ever read. It’s funny when 34 HR’s 875 OPS is meh…
And he pitched 166 inning to a low 2 era.
He makes 30 mil this year. Would you sign a pitcher that pitched 166 innings, won 15 games and K’d 220 to a 15 mil contract? Would you sign a hitter that will most likely go 40+ HR 900+ OPS to a 15 mil contract. Both would be steals.

I am hoping my meter is off…or, you just shouldn’t ever talk baseball again

He's making up for the poor performance over the first 3 years. The current 6-year contract was fairly valued.

First 3 years were meh- but he was paid nothing. Then you had 2 years at just over 4 mil each year that h gave you an MVP and 2nd in MVP.
And now 30 mil for a runaway MVP season.

He made up the first 3 in spades in his next 2…he owes tge Angels and their fans nothing. He has given more to his team than any other player.

Got it, my bad. Wasn't sure of the early years of his contract. Definitely outperforming it now. However, people need to remember this. There likely have been a lot of players capable of doing what Ohtani is doing now. The only difference is that baseball never let them play both sides in the past (even Babe was forced to give up pitching). I hope this changes.

My guess is he has 3 years max of doing both going forward. But those 3 years are a goldmine to whoever signs him. Even though it will take a 10 year 500 mil contract.
I see Cohen going there but what other team really could
