So, the ole Devil is not a gun guy. Although I do have a few of those. I am a knife guy. It started with kitchen cutlery, and quickly evolved to pocket knives. I am curious as to what the packs favorite pocket knife is?

To answer my own question. After much research. I bought myself an X-Mas present this year. A microtech shadow series 2 that I am in love with.

After many different types of pocket knives, I've settled on what I believe is the best. A spyderco paramilitary 2 crucarta. The blade is a willow shape and thickness tapers aggressively from the hilt to the tip. The blade is tall enough to taper down to a very thin cutting edge. It's cruwear steel, so it holds a workable edge forever if you hit it with a ceramic rod and stropping compound regularly. Cruwear is a super steel that is hard to break, so that fine tip holds up well and is really good at getting splinters out of a finger. Also, there are a ton of fidgety ways to open it. The compression lock is super strong and was designed by a great engineer and founder of Spyderco, Sal Glasser.

I have a knife problem, I’ll admit it. Bench made is my favorite. CRKT for a working knife. If bought a couple of Bokers recently and I’m impressed for the price.

Favorite of all time was a Beretta with the Skeletonized blade and quick assist. I lost it after about a year.

I currently carry 2. A kershaw quick assist and a 3 blade baby Ole Timer.
Ok, so I have always wanted a pocket knife with a skeletonized blade. Like I said I am a knife guy. Any suggestions, or brands to look at that you would suggest?

For all you guys that like traditional folding knives, take a look at Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC). They are made on the old tools and factory that used to make really good knives back in the day and are now brought up to a high standard, but still made the old way. They have better tolerances and are really solid knives that are collectable and usable. Most are carbon steel and take a nice patina. They sell out within minutes so you have to look on Allaboutpocketknives.com and Ebay. They are usually $200-$400 and actually come with a centered blade and properly tensioned spring with half stop, unlike today's Case knives. Mine has a great walk and talk.

I just got an AKC X-treme Ace. AKC is an Italian company and most of their knives are made in Italy. This X-treme series is made in Taiwan but it's well made. The blade steel is AUS8 and is scary sharp. The body is aluminum. They went for 150 but grindworx has them for 40. I got the OTF version of this knife last year and have been carrying it and have been impressed with it so my wife got me this for a stocking stuffer.

I like automatics and lean towards Italian made knives. I have AKC, Frank B, and AGA Campolin knives in my collection. For more traditional I have a Hogue Automatic, SOG Auto, and some spring assist knives for knock around work.

I collect pocket knives. I became more of a fan of what steel is in the knife than the actual name brand. They are expensive but I love the knives MagnaCut steel. I like carrying the Spyderco Sage in MagnaCut…but to be honest I’m always kinda nervous about losing it so it’s basically a Sunday church knife.
My favorite weekend knife for the deer camp is a Bear and Son’s in 1095 Carbon Steel. Very easy to sharpen.
When im fishing I use a cheap stainless steel knife

I have 3 Bark River knives in magnacut. Two are the drop point loveless hunters. I skinned and quartered a buck this month with one and it still would wipe hair off my arm. I use a couple Japanese water stones, a ceramic honing rod, and a double sided strop. I have a custom Fiddleback forge bush finger that is in A2 steel that holds an edge for less time so I get to sharpen it more often. Love that knife for everything.

Several years ago I started asking for one kitchen knife for every Christmas or Birthday. Miyabi was the brand I chose, Japanese made and a little expensive. I got a couple of kitchen knives but I really wanted a complete set of non serrated steak knives and that was considerably more than anyone in the family liked me. For the record, I think sawing a good steak with a cheap serrated steak knife should be against the law. One Amazon Prime day they had a complete kitchen knife set including six steak knives, 16 pieces total I think , for $299. Dalstrong brand, Chinese made but great reviews. I took a chance just to get the steak knives and I’m beyond impressed. They are excellent knives. I rarely use the Miyabi’s anymore. I highly recommend them if anyone wants a good set of kitchen knives.

I’m a gun guy AND a knife guy. Every day carry at work is a Benchmade Volli and a Mini Griptilian. Outside of work I usually carry a Benchmade Bugout or Spyderco Bodacious. During deer season I generally have a fixed blade of some kind on me. It’s been a Chris Reeve Backpacker, but I got a Benchmade Dacian for Christmas, so I’m sure it will work into the rotation.

I got a Case 2 blade folding Hunter in the late 1960’s. The blades are worn down to about half from many, many sharpening sessions. That’s my favorite. I was given a second folding Hunter with stainless blades for my 40th birthday, which was 31 years ago. I keep both of them in my hunting day pack and I sharpen both of them before hunting season and just rotate them until I need to sharpen them both again. They are exactly alike except for one being stainless And one carbon steel. They both sharpen fine, but the stainless one takes a little more work. Very simple basic no frills knives but I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I have had other knives over the years but always went back to these.

I'll 2nd the CRKT. Don't like a big one (that NOT what she said) so my everyday carry for use around the office or home is the Squid. I've got a Leatherman in both my truck and car always near too.
