Drove in and out of Manhattan b/c it was only supposed to be 1.5 inches of snow by 6 pm. Wrong! Probably 3-4 inches of snow by then. NYC roads and Rt 80 were a complete mess. Looks like 4 inches here in Morris county by 8 pm and still coming down. This storm definitely over performed.
Actually, as I said yesterday and this morning, as per the NWS, NYC and points north of 78 were likely to get 3-5" of snow, which was a pretty good forecast, although even that is going to bust low for many, as lots of folks in NYC/NENJ/LI/Hudson Valley have 5-6" and it's still snowing. A few of the TV mets, who typically suck on the weekend, were calling for only 1-3" in NYC Metro/NE NJ/LI, which was a bad forecast.

Hazlet schools on 90 minute delay. 3"+ on ground with at least a 1/4" of ice on top. Plow came down my street and plowed and sanded. I was pushing the stuff in front of my driveway the plow left, and it was like pushing broken glass chips, lol.

Message from So Brunswick was 90 minute delays & tests are on

Decided to clean my car off tonight instead of the morning and and man what a mess. I'm in Lambertville and there's gotta be a good 1/3 inch of ice on top of everything. I'll thank myself in the morning.

Re: OT: WINTER SNOW EVENT SUNDAY AFTERNOON/ NIGHT...1-4 INCHES OF SNOW TO ICE

Peeking ahead, Upton has 2-4" for Tuesday afternoon/night for Union/SI and 3-5" almost everywhere else in their point and clicks (i.e., NE NJ, NYC, LI etc.) and in the hourly weather graphics, but their AFD is pretty non-committal on snowfall amounts and we're only 48 hours out. Interestingly, just next door, in northern Middelsex County, the NWS Mt. Holly point/click and graphic all have about 0.5" of snow for us and similar amounts for Somerset County and elsewhere. Big disparity. Hope Upton is right. This is all before the snow changes to rain late Tuesday/early Wednesday and we get an inch or so of rain with temps in the 40s. Will definitely be some urban flooding.

Also will be really interesting to see if we can get the late Weds to Thursday storm to thread the needle and give us some good snows. Model disparity right now is huge with everything from an inch of snow to 10" of snow. Very skeptical of a very snowy solution, but it's at least possible.

i agree with numbers, 10" of snow this late in the season would be fun. not all of us are grouches like bac. i think our area is good enough at this to deal and ensure minimum danger/damage.

You're not seriously asking this question are you? After 15+ years of posts talking about how much I love snow? Don't be a troll on this board like you are on AmericanWx. Also, a snow-out of the men's hoops game is probably the best result we could get.

I live in Bucks County in PA and every snow prediction outside 24 hours has been wrong this year. Some not even close! Where they predicted over a foot and we got barley 2 in. I don't know where you live but it's been the same from NYC and south. Only Boston has lived up to the strong storms.

Again yesterday predictions of 1-3 was a hoax. No measurable snow just hail and ice.

I think everybody, himself included, knows #'s is a "weenie". Who cares???????

Let him enjoy the snow...him hoping for it has ZERO effect on whether it will happen or not.

Let it go..we live in New Jersey, not Florida. A 3-5 inch snowfall i doubt will cancel the men's game. Just add extra time if you need to go.

Re: OT: WINTER SNOW EVENT SUNDAY AFTERNOON/ NIGHT...1-4 INCHES OF SNOW TO ICE

what was weenie about his post was the posting of those totals for Tuesday which are not likely to happen, most likely a computer generated error by Upton in their point and click extrapolating all qpf as snow in that timeframe when a lot of it will be ice and plain rain

looking like a period of snow to start that could accumulate a slushy inch for most around Central Jersey (probably not on treated roads) late Tuesday afternoon into the evening that will change to sleet and freezing rain and then hopefully go over to plain rain as temperatures warm. Mt Holly snow maps are inch or less. You have to go further north for maybe 1-2 before the changeover to mix. This event will not be as bad as yesterdays.

its the Thursday event that bares watching for its potential of 6 plus inches of snow...this has the potential to be our biggest snow of the season for many if the models hold. GFS/NAM supporting this right now but as always things will shift.

Ill raise your ******** a ********

there will be a wave riding along the front for Wednesday night into Thursday...all the models have this...will it be too far south, we shall she but the nam and gfs both spit 6 inches plus out for this system...which could change based on the evolution of the first wave that will hit us Tuesday night and Wednesday morning

that event is snow to ice to some rain but looking less potent qpf wise with the rainfall than initially thought...temps may get into the upper 40s briefly but no appreciable warmup and then things cool down at night

Here's why it busts:

Marginal temps and marginal QPF.

that's a concern here if the front does not get here in time, its warmer longer at the start....also concern that this is further south where best precip could be kept south of central jersey...lots to be played out here...these type of bigger storms have almost always trended less snowier this year as we got closer to start time

What's "weenie" about pointing out a discrepancy in the two NWS office's predictions for tomorrow? Nothing. Turns out Upton backed down a bit and now has 1-2" for NYC/adjacent NJ and 2-4" well N of 80 and Mt. Holly has an inch or less for most of Central Jersey. The event will certainly be less impactful than yesterday's - never said otherwise.

And the Thursday event is a serious potential event, especially with today's 12Z models almost all showing 6" of snow or more region-wide. Of course they can still be wrong, as many moving parts have to work out nearly perfectly to get a major snowfall with this setup, but to dismiss it because you don't want to see it is just silly. And who the f are you to tell me what I should want? I'd love more snow - you and 90% of the world wouldn't. Big f-ing deal, especially since what we want doesn't matter a whit anyway.

#s Yes. More than half those towns are upper bucks. Im south of the Burlington Bridge. At no time yesterday was the ground covered where I could not see grass. I live here. There wasn't jack of an accumulation of snow. There was more hail by far than snow. By 4:30 all rain.
Most of those towns are closer to Allentown than where I am at. And some at higher elevations.

So it was a "hoax" even though they got it right in at least half of the county?

RBS. No they havent been right 24 hours out of every "major" storm. The Philly stations have had it wrong every time this winter. Inside 24 hours they start backing off but even today they are leading the news about the next two Winter Alerts. Failing to say that everything that came down is completely gone already.
The people that need therapy are those that keep running out because they "gotta get the milk and bread" (insert funny video here).
The news has become the sky is falling show.
Weather winnies are so defensive. Face it they done a poor job this winter around here.
It all about getting people to watch. Damn be any truth.
