They are also leading renewable installations as well.China is bringing a new coal plant online weekly.

And? So what. They are also leading renewable installations as well.
So what? They believe in human induced climate change but they are also trying to balance as a developing economy with massive infra needs. Both data points are important. Why just cite one with the insulation that it’s a useless exercise? And? So what.
That's called leadership. The US used to be proud of leading with new technologies but today we have people who want to follow and be backwards. And? So what.
Umm, the Daily News is owned by Tribune Publications and it's a liberal rag. The DN and NY Post try to outdo each other each day to whip up their brainless, hyperventilating readers. Someone brings the DN to our office each day because it has coincs and good puzzles. The front page is pure comedy most of the time.Haha.. Murdoch rag publications. Ultra right fake news with a slanted propaganda. Sensational reporting for the uneducated.

I can't understand how any rational person could defend that POS, narrative-driven rag. The funny thing is many elites seem to think it some sort of bastion of excellent news reporting.
As far as the topic of this thread, I think I agree with much of what @RU4Real said (if I understand what he said correctly) is that we should do a little it of everything wrt to clean energy sources. Perhaps a minor area of disagreement, and it is minor is the phase out of petroleum products. Setting hard deadlines for phase out may not age well. As far as the rest of the world, China seems to be doing very little, as do other major countries on climate change and pollution. That's a problem.
Yes. Reuters is OK, but some questionable stuff. Some of the best independent reporters are on social media, Tablet and substack.Read everything and question all of it

And where would those taxes go?I would support a policy-based fix for this, that taxes income from coal and petroleum products at a higher rate than income from CNG, nuclear or renewable.
It's called leadership. You invent, implement and sell new technologies. Or you can sit back and let China take the lead and keep burning old energy sources until they run out, and then you have to buy the new technology from someone like China. Failure to take the lead dooms nations to second class status. It’s called ********.
If you want carbon carbon cut dramatically you don’t make excuses for the Chinese and Indian coal plants
We need to be very careful about hurting our economic and global power like the Euros did in their bad energy policy capitulation to the hyper-green agenda. Europe was very fortunate last winter was mild when Russia cut-off energy. I would never trust the Chicoms...they saw what happened to Europe and would love to see the U.S. mismanage energy policy too. Meanwhile they will expand coal and any other reliable energy resources to help their economy and build-out their military. It’s called ********.

Doesn't matter.. if the wind turbine stuff is harming them it is because it damages them and doesn't do insta-kill. The idea is they basically go blind to where they are and eventually beach themselves and die. But even if you could find them alive and get them back in the water they would just beach themselves again... that's the theory anyway. It is not like you can ask a whale what's going on with them. Are they building the wind turbines all the up to Monmouth county?
Is the warmer ocean temperature a possible cause?Doesn't matter.. if the wind turbine stuff is harming them it is because it damages them and doesn't do insta-kill. Where they die probably has little to do with where they were injured. How many wind farms are being built on the east coast?
I would like to know of the 60 whales that died what the range along the coast and distance from a wind farm was.
They are also leading renewable installations as well.

Once the wind farms are built do we expect whale deaths to stop?Where they die probably has little to do with where they were injured.
Not sure who you're referring to re: 'not talking' about capitulating to an extreme green agenda-looks like this current Admin would do just that. I am for continued R&D into and a better defined/fully vetted long-term plan for clean and reliable energy without killing-off our proven, reliable energy sources, and that would include investing in clean coal power. We can't repeat Europe's mistakes, we need all our energy resources available and developed to maintain our superpower status militarily and economically.I don't think anyone is talking about energy capitulation. I think we're pretty unanimously agreed that we should bring more capacity online, quickly.
We just disagree on how that should be done. I say no coal / oil and yes to everything - and I mean everything - else. Many others have said the same thing, but would keep the fossil fuels.
What's frustrating is that one element of disagreement in an overall landscape of commonality is preventing any forward progress. I'm happy to keep arguing about the future of fossil fuels, but can we please build all the other **** in the meantime, while we're pissin' and moanin' about coal?

And as you know, since we've gone through this dozens and dozens of time on the CE, Biden has been negotiating with Saudia Arbia, Iran, Venezuela for more oil while he works to shut down our industry. We also know you believe in the alarmist man-made global warming theory; we can continue that on the CE.Europes mistake was abandoning their energy sovereignty in favor of cheap Russian gas - something Obama and Trump warned them about. The decision to abandon nuclear energy was also a major mistake. There isnt much dispute. At the same time, hindsight is 20/20 - most didnt think Putin would actually invade Ukraine.
Its much faster and increasingly cheaper to develop renewable resources - with the benefit of not producing carbon emissions (yes - supply chains are also a challenge - it takes emissions to produce PVs and wind mills - but those processes can also be decarbonized.
This is a constrained optizimation problem. We have a budget of about 500 gigatons of emissions that we can spend to keep warming 1.5C to 2C. As RU4Real pointed out, rapidly decarbonizing power generation is completely achievable and should be done urgently. Coal could be replaced relatively painlessly. Transportation, Agriculture, Cement and other sectors are going to be far more difficult to decarbonize and we should be directing whats left of the budget to there.

The whales were dying years before anything was being done. The Sierra Club supports the windmills. It's rich seeing Republicans, who have never shown concern for wildlife and even talked not so long ago about getting rid of The Endangered Species Act, pretending they care about whales. Give it up. It's just more hypocrisy and dishonesty

I'm talking about you, acting like a champion of wildlife.Schellenberger is a Democrat
How many whales, cetaceans and marine mammals did Exxon Valdez kill? Fossil fuels kill vast numbers of wildlife in a bunch of ways, far more than windmills ever could. The number of birds alone is in the billions. If you point out that offshore E&P kills whales (and that spills also kill whales), he’ll call that a whataboutism. Clueless.
No because the blades will slice the whales in half. First it was the sonar and then it was the blade.Once the wind farms are built do we expect whale deaths to stop?
