At daughter’s house in Elkton MD watching 2021 Rockerfeller Christmas Tree cut down in neighbor’s yard and loaded for trip to NYC. Norway 🇳🇴 Spruce 85 yrs old and 79 ft tall. Tough engineering feat navigating narrow back roads to I95. Let’s go Rutgers. Get to Pinstripe so I have another reason to visit city this holiday season.

Neighbor was arm twisted by Arborist from Roc Ctr passing thu heavily wooded area last March. Owner had lost other large tree in storm cutting off road . Figured this one too close to house. Gets tree taken out free and some fame as well. And they planted a young one nearby. Owners are elderly. New tree 🌲 no threat.

No, it's a member of the Spruce Cult.
I heard it's a pretty musical tree. After it's done with it's Christmas duties, it's going to try out for the Spruce Springsteen band. Although Born To Photosynthesize just doesn't roll off the tongue quite the same way.

Sorry, I'm on a bad joke roll this week.

Beating everyone to the punch: yeah, just this week. 😉

i know that it's a huge honor and all that, but i would never let them cut down an 85 year old tree of mine. feels too wasteful.
I’ve paid 7k to have 2 large trees cut down. It’s cool until you realize the tree can obliterate your house. My tree guy convinced me to keep a beech tree and of course it came down during Isaias. Was lucky it fell away from the house but tore up the retaining wall that will cost me 25 - 30k to replace.

Does the tree need to wear a mask since it's NY?
The squirrels using it might, never know if a nut would get them sick.
But seriously, this tree news is a feel good thread ( for me) because of finding out about this year's Christmas Tree going up in Rockefeller Center

they pay nothing for the tree. it's a donation.
SO they increase CO2 by killing a huge tree (later disposing of it) and they pay nothing for it. Let me guess.. they turn it into lumber to give to habitat for humanity. But they build those white supremacist single-family homes for nuclear families.... BAH HUMBUG!

Our neighbors walked to New London rd to watch it drive by yesterday. The police gave it a nice escort through Newark.

Love the story of getting it there each year, but that f'ing tree is going to cost me an hour or more in 5th Ave traffic someday. Last year a giant double decker bus completed blocked the few as we went by. The experience isn't much better by foot these days. Crazy crowds. I took my kids picture on the stump of the tree that came from the Tree King front yard in Hamilton years ago. Much better experience.

It is amazing how small a 79 foot tall tree looks when they put it next to those tall buildings.
Same with St. Patrick's cathedral....

I work in the area and people are going absolutely crazy about this tree. I just don't get it.

Here, in Boston, the tree is donated - every year - by the Nova Scotia provincial government for the aid and support that Massachusetts provided the city of Halifax after the great explosion of 1917. I believe this runs in perpetuity.

I had two beautiful Norway spruces in my yard in addition to a nice Colorado blue spruce. There's no way I would kill those trees for money let alone donate them.

I also work right by the tree and the tree lighting event is a nightmare. But it does look beautiful by the rink. Sure sign the holidays have arrived.

1) hopefully it doesn't fall over in a slight breeze (see: The White House tree)

2) about 10 years or so ago the tree came from the nursery around the corner from my childhood/parent's home in Hamilton!

Was at Rockefeller this afternoon. No signs of disruption. Lots of security and police as usual, and the side streets blocked off as they will be for the next month near the center.

Watched the entire ceremony go off without a hitch. First time hearing of any protest is right now reading this thread. Nothing happened on Tv either.

Ironically it sounds like they could get no where near the tree and ended up at the Fox News christmas tree down the street instead LOL
