This is one of the all-time silliest reasons for a sell-off. Really, there were no R&D funds kicked their way from the CCP? Zero chance that is possible. Someone should ask their LLM about Tiananmen Square or the Cultural Revolution, I’m sure it has best-in-class amnesia.

This may be the single dumbest reason to sell tech stocks (or any stocks) that I have ever seen. LOL!

Seems like this is mostly CCP propaganda. Not even real technology news.
I think the market is just looking for a reason to sell off considering a nice run.

Plus if and whenever the time comes how many would use a Chinese AI product? There is TikTok I suppose but on an enterprise level I’d be surprised.

There was probably very little R & D money spent because they very likely stole research the US companies did. Or used NVDA hardware that they weren't allowed to.

TSM is nicely down. I have been looking to convert my AMD to TSM in my custom stock basket. Might as well do the deed this morning before institutions figure out what the mindless trading algorithms are doing and flip the switch.

Everything is correlated lol in moments like these..GEV down 15% or so and back down to that level where it based at for a couple months.

I have a $360 stop loss in place for GEV. Maybe I should turn that off and see what happens.

320-340s area has some support and the area it based for a couple months, whether it holds or not is a different story. 50DMA is at 350 as well. PE is fairly rich too around 90 so you'd expect some of that to come out.

I'm skeptical energy consumption will be so much less on this Chinese news. When it comes out from a more reliable source, I'd believe it.

Staples and healthcare on my screen all look green. UNH pushing up against that 550 level where it broke down through.
NKE is up! :)

Overall, I guess it was a good idea to cancel my GEV stop loss (which I assume would have automatically executed at opening around $330). Stock has creep back up to $350. I'm watching closely.

Yea NKE has been holding some longer term MA support in the lower 70s. I was hoping it my pierce it and was waiting for it at another support level deeper in the 60s but not coming to me yet. Next earnings report would probably be the time it could happen if it all, if the numbers aren't good but I'd guess a good amount of bad news is also priced in but we'll see.

For now at the open GEV is holding that support area it based at for a couple months. If the story is still in tact and energy consumption won't change markedly then somewhere down the line this gap down can close.

I'm wondering if that gap in AVGO might want to close somewhere in the future. I do like the stock though.
Id continue to add. Still a modest sized position.

I guess we need to aee how this shakes out but my first thought on this china news is the US AI companies will need to continue to spend.

Started back into CRWD. Not really related to todays news. Just wanted back in.

I also have some losses I might need to cut. AGYS being the prime culprit.

Yeah, it held that mid-300 for a while and then had the hyper-pump over the past 2 months due to Trump/AI energy. Makes me think upside is limited for now. I will likely step out and regroup. Maybe a small call play in case it makes another run.

I don't think anything changes much in the story on this China news. I think some froth needed to come out though and this is a reason to sell.

AVGO gap is in the mid 180s and 200DMA is around 170 so I like that vicinity better but can't say it will get there.

Never got out! :)
Weathered the CRWD outage storm in full. And actually bought that dip pretty heavily.

By the way, I whiffed on those NVDA options at the bell. I offered full ask, but the stock price went up too quickly. I will revisit in the afternoon.

I traded that dip very well. Sold late year.

Sell off deepens.

Im holding for now
Euro market closing time give or take and last couple hours of the day imo are when you can see exacerbated moves...could be an acceleration of the current direction or potential reversal.

Also AVGO may eventually just close that gap I mentioned.

Don't lose all of "our" NIL money in the market. We need more blue chip players than blue chip stocks! 😉

Recent Tik Tok ban and Trump declaring rush to AI dominance - China says "hold my beer."

AI is all about data harvesting, pattern recognition, monitoring (surveillance), inferencing, networking etc. China has been way ahead on that with its surveillance apparatus. DeepSeek is TikTok replacement to suck US data. US factions want the same model but candy-coat it.

DeepSeek is open source but it will run through Chinese servers. So they have more harvesting of US data - and the lemmings rush in to get it on their phones, computers etc.

China exposing the AI hype and running better app cheaper (they say). US energy demand for AI is also hype. The "Sputnik Moment" is also hype intended to grow the AI dollar sucking beast. Asked about Tiananmen Square DeepSeek dodged the question - AI still reflecting programmers and will continue - the "great objectivity" isn't there. Don't be surprised a US agenciey or two helped China get the banned (lol) chips. Remember B. Clinton's state dept helped China get banned (by Commerce Dept) missiles and submarine tech

"AI’s Energy Demands Are Being Overstated"

Ah, artificial intelligence. Is it going to keep getting smarter, use up all the electricity and render humanity irrelevant?...The correct answer does look like we’re currently headed for the “trough of disillusionment” (or, perhaps more accurately, yet another of many such troughs) in the AI hype cycle.

No, AI Won’t Use All the Electricity
Utilities’ projections of booming energy demand have a habit of not coming true

"Load forecasts from data centers risk falling into irrational exuberance territory"
There is a long history of overestimating load growth, which can drive overbuilding and the addition of resources that may exceed the increased demand.

Learned early on that it doesn’t matter how good a sector looks, always diversify.
Yup. Many moons ago, working for a tech company in fiber optics and optical communications, put way too many eggs in our own stock and lucent. Was young and dumb. Now I'm older, wiser and poorer because of those stupid decisions when I was young.

I am constantly dealing with my company equity (options and RSUs). Single stock risk really freaks me out. A portion of my RSUs vest every quarter and I normally sell and move the proceeds to something else. Love the company and bullish on its future, but holding so much stock from the company that also pays the bills is nuts! :)
