Btw....Tesla Energy picking up steam. Elon said during last conference call, they're booked solid through this year. This is part of the reason (often overlooked) Tesla is attacking the battery bottleneck so aggressively. This is just a taste of what Tesla energy will become.

I had/have a feeling Q1 and Q2 are going to be flat. Retooling of S and X + model 3 shut down b/c of semiconductor shortage. This is all in the Fremont factory. Shanghai is full go on the 3, but still not fully ramped up on the Y. If the new battery lines in Berlin and/or Austin experience delays, this lull could extend further. There have been some rumors of production issues with the new 4680 cells. I believe I shared this with you already.

Once Berlin and Austin are full go....look out. Both will produce 2 million vehicles/year.

Stocks like Tesla will eventually go through PE rationalization and I would bet it will experience the same fate as Microsoft, Oracle, etc. when they were basically flat for a decade after the dotcom bust.

Ya I do tend to forget the chinese companies. But NIO does look expensive currently. In terms of price to sales(NIO does not have earnings) they are more expensive then TSLA.

One extra benefit of buying the smaller, newer companies is they could become acquisition targets.

I think that is a pretty good angle for RIDE. GM is already an investor in the company, and RIDE is working out of an old GM plant.

Imagine a world where everyone drives the same car...... Exactly you effing can't. Stop trying to compare a car company to e-commerce. I don't give 2 craps where I buy my stuff (amazon) so long as I get what I want.

I’m trying to wrap my head around various charging stations. I’ve only seen Tesla charging stations . I googled other EV’s and none are compatible with Tesla’s charging station. Audi’s e-tron stations will get 25-30 mile charges in ONE HOUR!!!! 80-100% of non Tesla EV owners charge at home only. Until the infrastructure for these other EV’s is built out, I, personally wouldn’t buy an EV that I can only charge at home.

If your EV has. 300 mile range, why is that so important? How often are you driving more than 300 miles in a day? Just rent a car if you need to road trip or most families have 2-3 vehicles anyway

Not exactly sure how it works but ran into this at a shopping center in Lawrenceville recently. Company is Volta (SPAC- SNPR). Interesting concept- free charging, revenue is made off of advertising boards.

First of all, most if not all non-Tesla EV’s range is closer to 200 miles. Second of all, one hour for a 25-30 mile charge seems ridiculous.

We had one open here a couple years ago, and it was ultra busy the second they opened their doors.

I did look to see if they were publicly traded, and of course they were not.

I predicted this would happen and, like you said, it’s only the beginning. It was pure genius - i.e., convince Silicon Valley’s darling to enter the China market and build a plant in Shanghai - then yank the rug out from under them as retaliation for Huawei. Can you think of a better way to spit in the face of the US? Tesla was the perfect choice because building a factory and launching a production line is capital intensive. China’s plan would not have worked with other tech titans like Alphabet because closing a server farm and blocking access is no biggie. Just wait until the Chinese start driving the public narrative (no pun intended) that Tesla cars are spy vehicles.

Chris, the whole charging business for EVs is going to be very interesting. There is no real profit in it unlike gasoline stations. Without subsidies, who builds these other than the OEMs? Will it be a loss leader for the OEMs?
Tesla does have a big advantage, as much as I hate to admit it, in that their customers can use Tesla chargers and their cars are also compatible with other chargers. People do not want uncertainty, or long waits, when traveling.

You need to look for DC fast charging. Other than Tesla, there are a few companies that offer.

I had your same concerns prior to owning an EV. Unless you're frequently driving 300 miles one way, you won't ever think about the battery.

Tesla is not the only auto manufacturer that collects user data. BMW, among many others, does the same thing. So why is China singling out Tesla? It’s not like Tesla has a live video feed from each vehicle. This is just Phase 1 of China retaliation for Huawei and TikTok. I would not be surprised if they systematically ban Tesla vehicles over the next year or two from different segments/areas. Started with military and government facilities. Then, corporate campuses. Then, education related facilities. Then...

Sure - it’s TOTALLY normal for our biggest global rival to suddenly ban government and military personnel from driving Teslas, the golden EV child of Silicon Valley and the US. Not to mention it was the day after US/China relations got heated at the Alaska Summit.
