Black comedy.
Friendship is full of cringe humor and broad swings that alternate between laugh-out-loud funny and squirm-inducing awkwardness. It's also a surprisingly introspective film, almost entirely focusing on Craig and only revealing more about the other characters through Craig's mistakes and interactions. Friendship is about a lot more than just the challenges of male friendship, and actually serves as a stark and effective exploration of toxic behavior that showcases how a lonely man can make his situation worse (and even shows how one can overcome those challenges
Not usually one for unnecessary nostalgia but definitely here for one more time with the Bundy’s. Show never got its due until syndication….

I just want to say the Married with Children is obviously fake, look how happy they all are. Obvious BS.
Watched Sinners on HBO Max last night and ehhh. It was ok, not sure what all the hype was about though. Kind of convoluted in spots and rambles at times. I thought the sound, music and Cinematography were all very good.
Delroy Lindo pretty much steals every scene he's in. But full disclosure he is one of my favorite actors.
Miles Caton was also very good as Sammy.
I'd probably give it a B-/C+ range.

I watched Happy Gilmore 2 this afternoon. If you're a golf fan, you'll laugh in a number of spots, especially at some of the Easter eggs that are in there. If you're not a golf fan, you're probably not watching it anyway but you may not get a few of the references. I found it hilariously goofy.
Took my son and a friend to see Superman and it was a total blast. Best version of Superman and his world I’ve ever seen. He’s the most difficult character to get right and James Gunn nails it. He just understands comics and comic book storytelling on screen as well or better than anyone. The cast is the best I’ve seen too - best Lois, Lex, and yes, Clark and The Kents. The supporting cast is wonderful - Mr. Terrific, Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl are so fun and are given just the right amount of screen time.
Have said before Gunn is one of the best soundtrack guys in film and he shines here too. Mr Terriffic’s awesome set piece is the star in that regard. Highly recommend.

Caught The Fanatastic Four: First Steps tonight. Another fun flick, great characters and actors, great storyline and 2for2 with recent superhero flicks.
Saw Superman, walked out. Will try Fantastic Four soon. On a completely different note, watched Judgment at Nuremburg and it was fantastic drama and dialogue.
A pleasant surprise. Would not have guessed this based on the available footage.
I caught My Mom Jayne on Max earlier this week.
It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. I think it had a very limited theatrical release a month or so ago, but shortly after that (like a week) was released on HBO and Max.
The film is a documentary about Jayne Mansfield, with a focus on her kids. It's directed by her daughter, the actress Mariska Hargitay.
I didn't know a lot about Jayne Mansfield, other than that she was quite a looker from the 60s in films. Plus, there was that famous photo of her and Sofia Loren.
The documentary was surprisingly good. Mariska was the second youngest (I think that's what it was) of Jayne's children. She was 3 years old when Jayne died in a car accident (she was in the car when Jayne died). As such, she has very few memories of her mother. A number of scenes are of her talking with her older siblings, and learning about her mother.
To the surprise of none of you, I do enjoy history shows. I doubt I would have had much interest in a straight documentary of Jayne Mansfield. But the documentary being about Jayne, as well as Mariska and her siblings, made it pretty compelling. And it turned out that Jayne was far more complex than her persona, as well as there being some surprises about Mariska.
I give a strong recommendation for the documentary.

I plan to see it in a theater. Not because it looks amazing, but because I want to support satirical movies like this being made and I hope to see more them. It feels like it's been a while since we've had a good comedy movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and pokes fun at all sorts of topics.
Good news Peaky Blinders fans - date announced for the Pb film - supposedly season 7 to follow in 2027.
Looking to see Weapons this week. Looks wild, same director as Barbarian.
HBO has come out with a two-part documentary on Billy Joel. It's titled, Billy Joel: And So It Goes. I watched the first episode last night, and found it better than I had expected. I saw him perform a few times in the '70s, and thought I knew a good bit about his career and early life. While the things I knew weren't inaccurate, I was surprised at how much more there was to those portions of his life. I'm looking forward to the second episode, and will watch it in the coming week. So far, I'd give it somewhere between a 4 and a 4.5 on a 5-star scale.
I have a hard time with “creative superstar drowns himself in alcohol” flicks. Might be that I’m too close to the subject, whatever. Carry on.
That wasn't a big component of the 1st episode. If I recall correctly, it only was raised in the last 30 minutes of the episode. (I think each episode is 2.5 hours long, so remembering exactly what was in an episode, and when, can be a bit of a challenge.)
I suspect that the drinking will be a bigger component of the 2nd episode.

Post divorce from his first wife/manager. A really interesting thing to see in part 2 is how Christie Brinkley still gets emotional talking about their relationship. It’s apparent to me she really loved Billy a lot.
