For folks jonesing for more 'Mare of Easttown', highly recommend HBO's 'Task', starring Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey (won an Emmy for his performance on 'Ozark'). It, like 'Easttown', is created and written by Chester County's own Brad Ingelsby (this show appears to be set in the same 'universe' as Easttown too - at one point there is a police officer from Easttown Police Department recruiting at a career fair) and is set in Delaware and Montgomery counties. It goes even harder into the SE PA cultural identifiers too - first two minutes we get mentions of 'scrapple, 'water ice', and 'ACME'. The accents are all over the place too but it's fine.
Ruffalo stars as an FBI field agent (who is really, really going through some family sh*t) who, while taking some time to deal with stuff, works career fairs until he's called in to form a task force (get it?) to take down a crew of violent burglars, who target drug dens, before a bigger gang war breaks out. Tom Pelphrey plays the ringleader of the burglars and we get a good glimpse into his home life and tragedies that have sort of put him where he is - it's very well done and not something you see a lot of with 'bad guys'.
There is a lot here - familial issues with both leads (Ruffalo drinks giant cups of vodka when off duty to deal with the grim stuff he's dealing with; Pelphrey lives in near squalor as a garbage man trying to climb out of poverty while dealing with losses too). are fleshed out a bit but not fully revealed yet, and the acting is great - supporting cast has some well known 'that guy's!' too including House of the Dragon's Fabian Frankel and Martha Plimpton as Ruffalo's boss at the FBI. Some tense stuff in the first episode and can't wait to watch more - anyone check this out? One of the best first episodes of TV I've ever seen.
