They're coming down to SJ and playing my Woodstown Wolverines here tomorrow night in the first round of the playoffs, so I figured I'd ask the board in case anyone is familiar with their program this year. Unfortunately I can't make the game. Sucks because it's gonna be really nice out. Anyway, TIA!

How exactly are these playoffs set up that Dunellen and Woodstown are playing while at the same time South Hunterdon plays Salem? Wouldn’t it make sense to switch those up?

Yeah, not sure. Def. bizarre that we're playing a team from Central NJ in the first round. And Salem is our in-conference rival.

Teams are seeded by power points. The top 16 of the North, and the South of each group are selected. the North, and South are then divided into two groups, by alternating the seed positions. The winner of each group of eight then play for the North, and South champions, with the winners playing for the State Championship.

Live in Dunellen but don’t really follow closely. Record this year 5-3, wins against Dayton, Highland Park, Belevedere, Manville and Brearly. Lost to S. Hunterdon, Roselle Park and Middlesex.
Assume most starters play both ways, only about 25 kids on roster.
Funny story from a few years ago: Dunellen kid is picked to play in Snapple bowl goes to first practice and coach asks if he is a d back based on size, kid says no I was defensive end.

Like those years when Weequahic, Shabazz, Lincoln, Hillside were playing in the South Jersey playoffs a few years back.

This is a scary post. I was the Team Captain and tackle for the present Coach of Dunellen. That was back in 1974.
I think you mean you played with him. He was your QB. No I am not from Dunellen.

oldest daughter graduated in 94 - Central Jersey group 1 champs that year. Only had about 60 kids in her graduating class, but had ferric rb named Derek Carter.
What ever happened to that kid? I remember going to their game against St. Peter's in New Brunswick when they won something like 50-0.

A bunch of us used to go to the Dunellen Hotel on Thursday nights back in the late '60's.

It's still there. Always had great wings. The whole building has been open for dining for a while now, not just the rathskeller anymore.

Think he wound up going to some junior college and wound up having some legal issues. But that is just hear say
Rember going to game at Metuchen, 0-0 at half, rainy muddy day - he fumbles second half kick off, picks it up and goes about 100 yards for TD.

Good to hear that - we had some good times at the DH.

Your right, thank you for getting that straight. I was trying to get that posted before I had to turn my phone in to security. Dunellen is not known as a powerhouse in football. Nice to see them doing well.

Regional school in Lambert like, not sure which towns besides Lanbertville go there
Lambertville, Stockton and West Amwell. At one point it was the smallest public school with a football team and it regularly makes noise in the Group 1 playoffs..

Bumping this thread because my Woodstown Wolverines have now made it to the New Jersey Group 1 final four, woot woot! We play Glassboro at our place this Friday night... a team we lost to in OT earlier this season. If we beat Glassboro then we play the winner of Mountain Lakes vs. Shabazz for the Group 1 state championship at SHI Stadium. Would be an AWESOME way to cap off a solid season. We've got a pretty solid squad for a small Group 1 school, including one of the best junior RBs in the state in Bryce Belinfanti. Kid is a stud with great burst & wiggle.

Exit 1 off the Turnpike. Salem County which in all honesty feels more like the actual South. I work in Swedesboro which is Exit 2 and it starts to feel like that right around that point. Kingsway who I follow for HS lost to Cherokee in Group 5.

Jerseybama! Cowtown Rodeo!

Really.. its a different world... and maybe better...
I grew up in Ridgewood (Bergen County) and being a former North Jersey guy, I had no idea that there were such rural towns in this state until I started to migrate south. I've been going lower and lower (started in Mt. Laurel in '02, followed by Voorhees, then Sicklerville, then Mullica Hill and now Woodstown/Pilesgrove) and I love it down here. Farmland as far as the eye can see. It's def. a much different feel/vibe then North Jersey, obviously, and I could do without all the Eagles fans, ha, but overall, I love it. Big fan of Salem and Gloucester County. No plans on going any lower though. As mentioned above, Woodstown is pretty much between Exits 1 and 2 off the NJTPK. Essentially the Southwest corner of the state. That's low enough for me.

Hey, isn't Bridgeport Speedway down your way? My dad and i have had some fun nights down there. To echo Good'OlRutgers' comment, it does feel like a different world.

About 10 mins from my office, but yeah, Deep South Jersey as I call Salem/Cumberland/parts of Gloucester Counties feel more like South Carolina or one of the Southern states than Jersey. Where I am on 322 it's a strange combo of rich people with houses that can cost anywhere from a half million to a million plus, farms and warehouses. A lot of supply chain/logistics industry down here as it's a good strategic location for shipping as the Commodore Barry Bridge can dump you at PHL Airport in like 10 mins or Penn Terminal for ocean freight, as well as Exit 2 on the Turnpike to get freight to EWR in an hour and a half.

Yup, ha, the old loud modifieds.. good times! It's in the Repaupo area, a little above Logan/Swedesboro off of 295, although technically, it's considered to be "in" Swedesboro. Fun place indeed, as is the racetrack down in Millville.
