As a preacher you are obligated to start replies like this with “Besides the Bible…”
Iles' first two books are works of historical fiction, very meticulously executed, and they're two of my favorites of his still. I like his other work a lot, but the first two are excellent in a different genre.
They are, "Spandau Phoenix" and "Black Cross." They're WWII historical thrillers. Not to be missed.
He said he went away from historical fiction after doing those two because the work to make them stand up to par was too hard. Haha.
