Like all of us, I think a lot of commercials are dumb. But if I'm not in the targeted demographic, then they don't give a **** what I think.

Most advertising specifically does NOT target those of us "of a certain age". The reason is twofold. One, we are assumed to be less likely to be early adopters of new products. Two, for mature products, our brand preferences are assumed to be established and somewhat inflexible.

I am sure you are correct. In addition, some people think that commercials are deliberately made obnoxious to be more memorable.

Remember, too, that all of us are in the target demographic for ads for insurance. Those "of a certain age" are also in the target demographic for cellphones and pharmaceuticals like eczema and diabetes drugs.

Last year's last Fansville commercial was epic about the fan wave going through Fansville. The Sheriff's line was hysterical. "Is this the 1980s"

I used to like the Progressive commercials about acting like your parents, but I'm tired of them and some are really stupid -- like the one that makes fun of the guy for cleaning his trash barrel and putting his address on it.

I like both. The females on Fansville are smoke and the storylines and one-liners are well done. The emu commercials are so bad they're good.

I think the fansville ones are funny

The emu ones - never funny once, don’t get it. At all.

And fwiw - the one with the life coach teaching you how not to be your parents continues to be funny. But I can see that one getting old soon

As bad as the Emu commercials are, the ones with Lady Liberty in the background are like Chinese water torture.

Every time I see the ad with the dogwalker, I point out to my wife that being pulled down by panicked dogs is very dangerous: there are loads of emergency room visits caused by it.

Fansville is fun! My favorite was when their son was a lacrosse player.

Just wish they had more.
