Imo As well these High profile programs arent cheating. To much to lose. These Head coaches are paid way to well now to risk. Their careers would be over if they did. Also a couple of you guys nailed it. Another example is us going all in on bow Bassett wow Penn State is quietly recruiting blaze. Hell blaze his brother is in another college and they still got him which I don’t blame him. Bottom line is simple his coaching staff Develops people better, keep them healthier, keeps them fresher, and they make them really believe they’re getting ready for the next level like gable did. Someone mentioned what else with the brands is due if they were coaching. Good question. I’m guessing when Sanderson retires some corporation is gonna pick him up . Big difference between head coaches and staff at these two. That’s the bottom line. No cheating no PED’s. We are just simply getting out recruited a little bit and definitely getting beat badly at development and health. I guarantee Penn State is ultra sophisticated and data driven on their training metHods from cardio/stregth etc. we are way behind 3-4 programs right now in all of this.

Agree that better statements could have been made than our lower weights not seeing any benefit. Do you know if Lee rolls round with any of those guys on a consistent basis, or at all? Thought I remembered him having his own training, but that might have been when he was training with no knees.
There are videos out there of Lee and Ayala training together. At least one is on this forum…

Amazing that Drake is still a below avg top position wrestler who cannot turn anybody in folkstyle.
It is exceptionally rare for a guy to develop top wrestling at the DI level if they didn’t already have it coming in. If he has to ride he is good enough to grind out time with a claw and spiral, but he is just one of those guys that feels most comfortable on his feet.
What has made that work for him is the fact he has been pretty damn good on bottom…
Oh, and technically those videos better only be freestyle. Anything formal practice related doesn’t allow for them to train collegiate wrestling together. That would need to be them hitting the mats on “their own” time!
I have seen videos of them training together. I guess I should have asked if he wrestles with them consistently. It would be hard for guys to really feel SLee's advantages if they aren't working with him consistently.

'05 OSU team MAYBE Top 5 (probably more like Top 10 now), certainly not best. 2000 Minnesota shouldn't have won, even with 10 AAs. Probably wouldn't have in Gable was still coaching. One of the first examples of Iowa underperforming at NCAAs.

That is a correct stat. Also a correct stat is they have gotten THREE #1 overall recruits ( according to flowrestling final big board of the relevant year) in the past 10 years. Hall,Liledahl, blaze. They have THREE more #2 recruits in that span, suriano ( talent was there), Brooks and Facundo ( whoopsy)...SIX total top 3 recruits in the past decade.... It's about identifying the elite of the elite and picking the correct ones. No one's perfect but Haines was 9th, starrocci was 9th, N Lee was 9th, Kasak 10th, Barr 7th. It's never been as simple as "Cael gets all the best guys".
Edit: Upon further review it's 20 top ten recruits not 22. Oops... I think I added Beard and RBY who were 11 and 12 respectively. But the list should be Hall,Suriano,Manville,berge,lee,brooks,starrocci,bartlett,howard,Facundo,SVN,Haines,barr,Kasak,liledahl,Ryder,Sealey,Mirasola,blaze,duke....

To be fair I do not think the most partisan PSU fan or Diehard Iowa fan would have imagined Sanderson's level of success. Which is frustrating for Iowa fans because you can't guarantee anyone can unseat a Gable or Sanderson until their tenure is over.

Iowa HS wrestling was very good in the seasons you just mentioned. I still find it hard to believe that Nate Moore did not do better than he did at Iowa, He was something else in HS.
As a PSU fan, I was certainly excited to see what Cael could bring when he was hired, but no, I had no inkling that it would end up like this. None. I was just hoping to see them win one national championship eventually.
Different sport but the situation applies. John harbaugh and Mike tomlin (both Super Bowl winning coaches) were relieved of their jobs recently. widely considered top tier coaches who have routinely been good, but haven’t gotten over the hump lately. There’s no clear cut better candidate available in those instances, which gets referenced here a lot regarding TNT. sometimes you just have to make a change.
