Anyone who thinks miles should be fired before end of next year for any reason doesn't understand what he has built so far -- at all. They also don't understand the significance of having three true freshman as major contributors who had relatively good stats against B1G competition.
Compare mcveigh to andrew white as freshman. Trust me mcveigh wins hands down as a 3pt threat.
Personally I think we will see 16-17 wins. 18 if they catch a break. That's more than good enough to see our players take another step forward (3-4 more next year with age alone). It isnt an ncaa team -yet- but NIT? With this many freshman and sophomores? Not bad.
If he makes the ncaas this year we should have a bloody statue prepared because miles will be here a long long time.
I want him gone if they don't win at least 20 games this year as this is his 5th season and the roster is all his players. Top facilities, top fan support/game atmosphere, top rated conference and an athletic department that will spend the money he needs to succeed. I think his salary is in the Top 20 for College coaches, and really not that far behind some big names like Roy Williams, and way more than many coaches that are regularly in the NCAA Tournament. I think his salary is about double of Creighton's Coach McDermott. Who by the way has better success on the court and has had no problem filling his roster annually with 2-3 true post players who are 6-9+. Outside of Legacy Recruits and Transfers, what player has been the most successful for Miles on the court? Has he really helped develop any players? How many years have we had open unused scholarships? Why the lack of true post players?
His best players have been transfers (Petteway, Pitchfork, White, and a Legacy(Shields). All of the transfers had their fair share of drama that was detrimental to the team. And how many players have transferred out?
Overall Record 63–67 (.485)
Conference Record 27–45 (.375)
This is the Show-Me year for Miles in my opinion. If the team isn't competitive in our conference after 5 years then I think we need to look at a new coach. He is not earning his Top 20 salary. Maybe his Small Ball style of play works in the MAC but in the B1G it has not worked after 4 years. I hope year 5 is different and we succeed on the court because I love the positive energy Miles brings to program but he needs to win some more games to match that large salary, and the on-court success we are hoping for.
