I wouldn’t be surprised if that split occurs. But if it does, I’d be interested to see how successful a super league would be. I don’t think it’s a slam dunk.Think you are unfortunately correct on this . The 4 teams added bring history, fans and quality to the conference. The level of these teams , talent and $$$$ is what makes them equal to those 4-5 teams already in the B1G. We have now entered a place where most Rutgers fans never thought possible. In the future ,I think like many others do , there will be another split off of those underfunded programs. Not sure this bodes well here in NJ ?
Fans care about CFB because they have skin in the game through a (relatively) local team or alma mater. If RU got left out, I wouldn’t keep watching UofM vs OSU or Wash vs USC every year. Why would I care? If I’m going to watch teams that I have no personal connection to, I’d just watch the NFL, where the quality of football is superior.
I don’t think I’m alone in that. As a result idk if viewership would make a college “super league” that improved to what there is now.
We need to step up, because a competitive NYC area team in the B1G could be real special. If not, and we get kicked out, then we’ll probably go back to some version of the Big East with the other leftovers. That’d be fine too.
