What BS? You act like he's stringing us along or something. From what I can tell, he's been pretty damn consistent in what he says. He committed, understandably decommitted after seeing the Gulf Coast offense in living color, dropped us after Sly and the Gang got their feelings hurt and broke off communication, allowed Mullen to visit after saying the hire piqued his interest and has steadfastly maintained that we are aren't in contention for his signature and would not be one of his visit destinations ever since. If you want to blame anyone blame our fanbase for maintaining that we have a legit shot at a player that hasn't listed us as a option since Mullen's infamous in-home.99jc said:

He led us on and led us on and led us and finally signed with Louisville. This was back when Paul Borden was the sports editor for the CL and would actively recruit MS players for Louisville. With Borden at the CL, Charles Jones, Lancaster Gordon and Kenny Payne all signed with the 'Ville.
Payne's career was OK. The hype around his recruiting was absurd.

I know his mother, we used to teach together at Madison Central. As you probably know, he father is a minister and he is/was a big State fan. Somewhat similar to the Garrett situation. Both played at large public schools that have well-known football programs in the state, both had parents that are/were State fans, and then Buckles had the Christian angle going for him that many of our sheep love. Buckles also had the "good kid"- and he was- label attached to him as well, and a lot of our sheep love that to. Gene pumped both of them up hoping to make everyone happy on his board, and both backfired.

He was one of the best I've ever seen in Mississippi High School competition. I think his biggest downfall was that he kind of lacked a "mean streak" that you need to play o-line.
