stay in Tuscaloosa. Makes one wonder if Saban knows when he's leaving and Smart is the heir apparent.

Texas fans are not happy with Mack Brown, at all. If they lose their bowl game, the heat gets turned up another notch.

Bama pays Saban $5M. UT could easily double that. If it comes down to $$$$$, and with Saban I don't think it's necessarily the money, Bama cannot spend with UT so don't even try to convince yourself they can.

A few comments:

1. I don't think Saban's going anywhere. I think he wants to match Bear Bryant's 6 national titles. And I think he knows the best place for him to do that is where he is now.

2. Even if Saban were to leave, I don't think Bama's would turn the program over to an assistant coach. I think they'd go for a guy who has already won and won big as a head coach. Like a Chip Kelly or a Brian Kelly.

I would really enjoy the comedy of Saban leaving and Bama hiring Miles away from LSU. I don't believe that would happen but the craziness that would ensue would definitely be fun.

Concerning the six national titles, I would think UT might give him as good

an opportunity to do that as Bama. Remember, the State of Texas has the best HS football in the country. With the way Saban recruits, he could go into Texas and get that State's best talent and combine that with recruits he'd get from other states simply because of his name alone and they are a top 5 program. Then you have the fact that the Big 12 is an easier conference to win versus the SEC. If Bama wins it this year, Saban may feel he's done all he can there and he's the kinda guy that likes a calculated challenge and UT would give him that.

National championships in the last 40 years:

Alabama - 6 + maybe 1 more this year
Texas - 1

I think Saban wants to win national championships and go down as the greatest football coach ever. I don't think he's as interested in "challeges." I could be wrong, but I've been hearing this whole "Saban's about to leave Alabama" thing ever since he was hired. I think a lot of people HOPE Saban will leave Alabama, and I'm one of them. But I don't see anything to make me think he will.

RE: Texas Money vs. Bama Money, is more irrelevant than it is disparate. If Saban leaves, it’ll be too “rebuild” a Texas program and win a BCSNC at a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] school and not for more money. And he could do that at Texas. I don’t think at 61, Saban would bail for another program “just to make a point”… I think he might embrace the challenge of winning 4 or 5 BCSNC in 5 or 6 years.
If Saban does bail or retire, I’ll carry his bags to his jet and thank My Dark Lord, personally.
Of course, none of this will make a difference for at least the next 3-5 years… I’m pretty sure Kirby can manage the Process for a little while.
My guess is he coaches at Bammer for 4 or 5 more years, wins a ~2 more NCs, then goes and watches the ducks **** in the yard.

Matching the Bear may put him on Mt Rushmore for college, but if he wants that distinction he'll have to win a Super Bowl. I wonder how much it irks him that he failed at the next level and wants to prove that he can actually win in the pro game. He would have to go to a solid franchise that will give him chances at winning the Super Bowl kind of like Harbaugh did in SF.

Maybe the Chicago Bears job looks interesting if Lovie continues the collapse. His kind of football and a organization with championships as the main focus.

In the overall series record, no because it'd take a century to catch

up. Would it make the games more competitive, I think so. I think when Saban leaves, there'll be a huge void and a drop you. Remember, after the 1992 National Championship, Bama football wasn't GREAT again til Saban. You were good but not great.

in the MSU/Bama series?

It would make a difference in every series Bama plays. Saban is dang near unbeatable at Bama at this point. I dont think there is another coach in football that has his edge and Bama will lose it when he leaves regardless of who they hire

I think he knows he had his NFL chance. He's a college coach, not an NFL coach. The two are rarely interchangable. At his age, he's got a better chance at 6 national titles than he does at 1 Super Bowl title. I definitely don't have any inside knowledge about what his plans are, but it just really looks to me like people are trying real hard to invent reasons he's going to leave Alabama. Maybe it will happen, but I don't see it.
