So we broke even. We still lost 40% of our attendance to do it. That's not a good thing.

I like the attempt to be outside the box- but I think a concert on campus as opposed to being part of the game is a better idea.

The crowd looked about the same this year as it did last year. I didn't see a big drop off. Unless of course you believe the attendance numbers released last year.

Given the weather it probably actually helped attendance. We would not have driven up given the weather had it not been for the concert.

Sorry to dissapoint you that this was not a failure.

This year's number was very close to exactly accurate, since there were tickets and all that.
Last year's number was completely made up and likely inflated.

on the grounds that the "40%" would still be at the games this fall (i.e. they may be pissed now, but it won't stop them from coming up for games this year). But I actually agree with you and Pat: it was a good idea, but could have been managed better. I still don't understand why we couldn't play on a full length field. The superbowl has much bigger acts that Sugarland and theymanage to setup and break down a stage for those acts in 30-minutes.

I don't doubt there were less people there this year, but I there are probably several factors in play (disappointing football season in 2011, baseball team is struggling, Sugerland kinda sucks, etc).

the Spring Game.

It was actually kind of funny, after the game ended a good number of people left. Then the opening act, no clue who they were, drove off some fans.

I found the funniest part to be after Sugarland started playing, they played a 4-5 songs and most people stayed put. Then it kept getting colder and they would play a hit or two that people watching knew. But as soon as they played a new song, hell may have been an old song but a song that no one had heard before, they would lose a few more 100 fans.

I mentioned to my wife that it was like a lot of fans stayed to see what the Sugarland concert was like but as soon as they played some song other than their hits, people just said screw it and left.

I still say it was a good move, whether it made money, broke even or lost a little, it was a good move and I don't think it will be the last concert at Davis Wade Stadium. I would even bet that next year there is another concert following the Spring Game. I may be wrong but I think that is something we will keep doing. I also think that if the weather had been better, you would have had a lot more people at the game.

That's just dumb. People have already been at Davis-Wade for 2-1/2 hours, and close to half of them were at Dudy Noble for 3 hours prior to that. I would have been pissed if I'd been there and there was an opening act.

I was one of those people who had been on campus with my kids starting at 10:30 for Fan Fair in the Junction. When it was over we went to the baseball game and then walked to the football game. Needless to say, with two kids and my wife, we were all a little worn out.

I honestly have no clue who the opening act was, I am not much of a country music guy, they may be a popular band, no clue. My wife loves country music and she doesn't know who they were either.

All I remember is them coming out and saying that they have a unique blend of "hip-hop country." That right there told me all I needed to know, it is a combination of 2 things I could care less about. They played for about 30 minutes and then Mullen spoke and Sugarland came our.

Yep long day, and if you sat on the 1st baseline at the game with the wind blowing directly in your face, it was a long cold day. Barnes and Noble had to have made a killing because the amount of people that were buying jackets, sweatshirts, blankets....... was unreal. I know they had sold out of blankets by the 2nd inning of the baseball game, I know this because my wife got the last one according to the sales girl.
